I can't seem to get the tire off... I followed the manual: remove axle, remove brake pads, unscrew caliper mounts. I must be doing something really stupid, but I cant get the caliper off the rotor to get the wheel free. Any help? |

I've never taken the front wheel off without splitting the caliper, but I'm told that with the pads removed you can work the caliper out of there. It just takes some patience. |

push all pistons all the way in. Then it should work |

Yeah its a pain, I shaved a little bit off the back of the caliper with a dremel. pads out and a bit of juggling it comes off. Put some tape on the rim to stop scratching. |

It will come off! You just have to twist the caliper a bit to clear the rim. If you have the axle out try pushing the wheel as far back towards the motor then try removing the caliper. |

Yeah, it can be a royal pain. Remove the pads, push the pistons back into the caliper, and then start. I found in my case it helped to have the axle in so I could rotate the wheel and try different spots on the rim. There is some magic and/or a 'sweet spot' where it will slip out. I looked carefully at where the interference is, and like Mick, shaved a bit off the back. |

I have pm wheels and have no problem, Just spread the pads and loosen the caliper bolts and voila! |

Also, don't remove the axle first. |

I've said it before, the only way I can get the front caliper off is to loosen the rotor mounting screws and run them about half way out. 01 S3T Castalloy wheels |

I guess this isn't an issue with PMs. Slides right out. |

The technique is a partial roll out and twist. For the first time I'd recommend putting duct tape on the rim to prevent from scratching it. Once you do it a few times you won't need the duct tape. So, pads out, pistons CLEANED then pushed in, pull caliper radially along disk, twist and spin it out. DON'T FORCE IT. That's your sign that you're doing it wrong. Be patient. A good time to practice your calming meditation techniques. It's a similar challenge getting the brakes back in. Warning: pay close attention to the spacers on the front wheel axle. The spacers shown in my FSM were incorrect! |

No need to split the caliper, or loosen the rotor. There is an orientation of the caliper in relation to the rotor that will allow it to slip right out, but it will take some fiddling to figure it out. Take your time and look carefully at it to figure it out. |

Thanks a lot. Got it off just fine... definitely a good call on taping the rim. When you put the wheel back on do you guys use the stock Loctite antiseize lubricant, or do you use something else? My friend uses Bel Ray waterproof grease on his Suzuki... any thoughts? |
