The stator on my '96 S1 bit the dust. What's up with with these rotor magnets? Shouldn't they be evenly spaced, as shown in 1st pic in this thread, http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/433236.html?1233572275 ,instead of that big gap between one pair? Anybody seen this?  Debating on replacing the crank seal while I am there, as I have seen advised here. But nobody ever really showed or told how to get it out. Anybody got anything on either of these things? Should I post this in another section? Thought it might get seen here soonest. Thanks. | ||

look on the other side of the rotor.. there should be little divots drilled out of the metal material in order to balance the rotor. I don't know why the magnets aren't evenly spaced, but the rest of the rotor is balanced to compensate for the lopsided weight of the magnets. | ||

That is what happens when the glue holding the magnets lets loose. Get rid of that rotor, its junk. Buy the new updated rotor, it has 8 bolts holding the rotor to the splined insert. | ||

Get rid of that rotor, its junk. +1. I had an early evo sportster that used to eat magnets when they flexed and contacted the stator.MY stator assembly was behind the clutch basket on that one.Lots of basket flex.A REAL hard acceleration risked losing te charging system.Learned to baby it | ||

You're right, Creature, the glue did come loose. At first I thought it was still glued in there, but further inspection shows that one magnet is loose. Funny that I did not notice any unusual vibration from that out of place magnet. Wonder if I will have to get a new primary sprocket too, or if the 4 bolt sprocket will line up with half of the eight holes in the new rotor. Anyone know? At least it didn't do what my '96 KTM Duke rotor magnets did. Real junk.  | ||

Can't get just the new rotor alone, have to buy it from HD with the sprocket. : ( | ||

what my '96 KTM Duke rotor magnets did WHOA!! Now that's about what my XL1100 magnets looked like after 89 inches of fury were unleashed upon them |
