anyone ever tried or heard anything about part coatings like a dry film lubricant coating on piston skirts or a heat barrier on the top of pistons? |

thetock pistons in my X1 are coated on the thrustline skirts, a non stick coating for the top would be kewl as there was .060" of carbon on the pistons when I took the motor down last month. |

Piston Kote was a product made by KalGard. It was around in the 80's,I haven't seen it in a while. Andrew |

Top coatings wont keep the carbon off forever, i tore down a 4agze (supercharged toyota engine) and the coating did not keep carbon off. Hell i had to scrub those pistons down for a while to see the top of them. |

Some engine builders use ceramic spray on pistons and bake them in the oven. Others copper plate the flywheels to shed oil quicker. |

An engine builder told me that low friction, dry film type coatings are great if you have problems with eggs sticking to your pistons... |
