Had a strange happening with my 99 M2 today. Jumped on it to go to work this morning and it started hard and began to blow a mixture of oil and gas out of the vent hose by the battery, and I mean a lot. Parked it and bought fresh oil and a filter on the way home expecting to just change it, thinking maybe I had overfilled the oil tank. I drained the old oil/fuel mixture and cranked it to pump out any remaining junk out of the system and I got easily over 3 quarts of the mixture. I even started it and ran it gently until the oil lite flickered and it quit pumping out the drain hose. Engine ran normal with no signs of being loaded up with excess fuel. Put the new oil in and new filter on and started it up with the oil cap off and took a wiff and noticed more fuel in the fresh oil. My dilemma is to figure how the fuel got in, other than the carb needle sticking, does anyone have any other thoughts on this mess? The bike had been sitting for about 3 weeks prior to this and had no signs of carb richness or flooding. I plan to get several quarts of cheap oil and keep the tank full of it while running it with the drain hose off until I feel sure it is well flushed and then fill with good oil. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated from the group. If the needle was still stuck it should have run like crap. I normally do not shut off the petcock. |

AFAIK it is caused by a stuck float, usually corrected by tapping on the side of the carb, sometimes caused by a piece of garbage. may be time to rebuild the carb. i always shut off the petcock if leaving for more than 24 hrs. |
