How best to describe this without sounding too much like an idiot? I installed a set of lowers on Pazuzu last summer, and then had to take her to the dealer for some engine work. The tech removed and re-installed the lower on the left hand side (the longer one) and now the alignment seems a bit off. My question is this: At the top leading edge of this fairing piece is a radiused point that matches the bottom leading edge of the tank. How do the two of these line up together? I had them, originally, lined up so that the points met at a smooth curve. After the reinstall, the tech had the fairing moved forward about an inch so that this point is now ahead of the tank. When I went to move it back to what I thought was the correct position, I noticed that it seemed that the fairing then took an odd bend to it, as the tank was now pressing on the fairing and torquing it downward. Does anyone have a photo of the alignment of the top of the fairing with the tank, or can someone describe for me how these two are supposed to be aligned? I must admit that when the two points are even, it looks much better, but I don't want to have to deal with cracking problems that I'd cause... DW |

I'd say the tech loosened the split-clamp lower mount and now its miss aligned. I would position the lower and adjust the split-clamp to fit. Cracking in the upper rearward radius seems to be common,I made a brace out of small strap that mounts to the split-clamp to eliminate the fairing flutter. |
