I apologize in advance, but I'm cheap, and have access to a mill and lathe. About how thick is the aluminum on these pieces? And how long is the shift linkage rod? |

If you're interested in a gp shift pattern, consider modifying the length of the linkage and shape of the piece that attaches to the pawl shaft. The design of the banke doesn't allow mounting it backwards for a 1 up 4 down pattern. |

I noticed that. I considered modifying an XB set and running GP shift, but decided that I prefer the regular shift pattern. I don't have a slipper clutch so I'd rather be able to downshift quickly and engine brake in hairy situations. |

I like it for it's theft-deterent qualities. If someone other than me hops on the bike and tries to take off, I'd like them to be confused long enough for me to stop them. As for corner clearance when upshifting out of a turn - I don't need that. The X1 has plenty of ground clearance for a rider of my low experience lever. Besides I like to hang way off the bike in turns and keep the bike as upright as possible. It's also a bit inconvenient to have to press down on the lever during acceleration, and lift during decel. Your body is being pulled back under accel, so lifting the lever feels more natural. Ditto with pressing down on the lever during decel. |

Yeah, I don't worry about cornering clearance either. A GP pattern would be neat, but would also be a pain when swapping bikes with my dad. I let him and one or two other people ride it (a rare occasion indeed), and would hate for them to tear something up or get in a wreck because of a swapped shift pattern. I mainly want the Banke style because I hate the boomerang shifter, especially when the bushings wear out. Twice it caught my pant leg and forced me to drop the bike on the left side. Not only unsafe but costly and embarrassing. |

Anyway, the aluminum is .455" or 11.56mm thick the linkage piece is 2.638" or 67.02mm long end to end, not eye to eye. This piece is adjustable, but mine is pretty much all the way closed. the linkage is also .477" or 12.13mm in diameter. |

Thanks Eric! I needed to know what thickness aluminum to get for this project. I'm also waiting on a custom drive support brace, and the shifter and brake pedal will be patterned to look similar to it rather than copying the Banke style. |

I used two skateboard bearings side by side on mine so the thickness is the same as that. |
