My S1 wouldn’t shift out of 5th,pulled tranny, the shifter drum had a small ridge in one spot on the shifter pin track and the fork was binding in that spot. Swapped drums with my other tranny 99-00 m2 the detent plate has different parts # -###90 and ###90a and shaped differently, anybody know is the drum the same for sure? anybody got a drum for sale and or a 3-5 fork? thanks Tod |

If you're looking at buying a drum, consider the baker smooth shift kit. Comes with detent plate and shift drum and makes a noticeable difference. Asb sells them. Note that the baker detent plate attaches to the drum with a button head allen instead of a dowel rod and a c clip. The button head will need to be filed down slightly before installation or it will cause just enough interference to not allow clutchless shifting from either 2nd-3rd or 3rd-4th. Can't remember which. Can't remember the name of the part in the tranny that the button head interferes with either. I'm picturing it in my mind right now though if that helps at all |

GET THE BAKER SHIFT DRUM / DETENT PLATE! The stock detent plate rocks and will not give consistent shifts. I have rebuilt my tranny 3 times with stock parts. Although each time it got better, it wasn't good enough - and eventually the shift performance would suffer after a few thousand miles. I got the Baker XL5 tranny and now this thing shifts BETTER than my Suzuki or Honda or Kawasaki!!! I wish HD / Buell would partner with Baker and have Baker supply their tranny as an OEM component. |

Nice idea! it would be nice to have some upgrade options from the factory like cars and trucks can have. |

The single biggest improvement I had in my trans shifting was switching to AmsOil motorcycle oil. |
