Alright guys put your thinking caps on please. I have a tapping or knocking noise coming from the primary or at least i think. The noise is near the clutch or behind the rear jug. I have already replaced and checked the fluid. Primary Chain is tight so i know its not the chain tapping. And from what i can tell but not 100% positive the sounds goes away when riding but as soon as i let the throttle go and its coasting in gear and i reach idle or near idle the sound surfaces again. Im lost dont know what it could be any suggestions or experiance before i go to the stealership??? |

I hope you mean "primary chain is adjusted properly" because it shouldn't be tight. (Just to eliminate the obvious.) Primary chain tensioner could have failed. I could envision some rattling from it broken while still keeping the chain tensioned (for a while.) Or, as Mick says, a loose crank nut. Its the cost of a gasket and fluid (again) to look for yourself at those two things. |

When I used to tinker with my Sporty, years ago, I laid some old tires on the ground - Then lay the bike on its right side... no Primary fluid loss. Good idea to take the fuel tank off first... Zack |

Carbonlighting: Remove Primary Chain Inspection Cover and check chain tension, adjust if needed ... Also look in with a flash light ... Make sure the TRANS. FLUID is the CORRECT LEVEL ... If this is not the problem, PULL the PRIMARY COVER to get a better look ... Then go from there ... Will be e-mailing you some "INFO" ... MAY THE LONG LASTING BUELL BE WITH YOU !!! I'm with Mick on this one. Check the crank nut on the primary gear/mag. I had that happen on my S3T and it sounded like a crank knock. Turns out the primary nut had loosened. It buggered up the splines on the crank but a call to the Loctite Corp. had them send me some Loctite #620 + a special primer. It solved the loose spline problem and has been OK for over 10,000 miles. Good luck! |

Yeah bingo, Nut backed off crank, boogered the thread, but had a shop fix it for me $120. Went to pick it up and they cant seem to get my clutch dialed in right now.. so i drove out there and came back empty handed until they can adjust the clutch where it still isnt dragging like hell pulled all the way in...... Thanks for all the help though guys. |
