I have a black tail section on my X1. When I bought the bike the previous owner said he had it powder coated. Well after spending all winter fixing everything he f-up on the bike I am doubting him. My bike had all sorts of different hardware and just plain jerry-rigged everywhere. I just can't believe he would do something right. And get this, he is the brother of the owner of Kegel's H-D/Buell, and H-D tech. So my question is there an easy way to tell the difference from paint and powder coat? There is a section with some scratches/nicks that I have tried to polish out but no luck. The black what ever it is, is super hard and the polishing compound I am using just won't cut thru it. I have used this on my car with great results, so I am thinking it just might be powder coat. PS: The black tail is up for trade or sale. I am looking for a select seat for a trade.

HHMMM Hard to say most powder coat since it is a electric charge application it tends to stick to every bit off it. The mounting holes show this but who knows?? Hey nice stereo you got there! |

After checking online, I think is is powder coat and not paint. One key feature is what P-bird said about the coating in the holes. That stereo is my shop system, it runs off a spare battery for my car. |
