so does anyone think it is possible to rig up a harley softail shock to fit on our tubers? travel has to be close to the same im guessing, but im sure the length is no where close. but i also know i could fabricate a longer sturdy mount.....anybody have any comments.... |

Wouldnt that not work, since ours is a pull shock? Unless you were to build different linkages etc, then i would think you would be better off using a different shock than a softtail shock. |

Softail is a pull shock too. They use two of them, not sure why, but they are much shorter and smaller. I don't think they have the same length when full in and full out. I think the travel is shorter. What makes it work is a different ratio to the swingarm pivot but I don't think changing the mount would give enough travel. Sorry for the book. I don't think it would work. |

>>>Softail is a pull shock too. Sure? I think the Buell operates in compression, the Softail in extension. Could be wrong . . . I've never owned a Softail. |

The spring in a Buell tuber shock works in compression, although the system over works by extending. |

They look like they are pull shocks like the buells. Smaller diameter though. Is that why they double them up? Less spring to carry your fat buttocks? |

Limited, That looks very much like an AST shock. I'll post a pic of ours tonight. |

Shows the swingarm pivot in the middle of the frame and the shocks below. When you compress the suspension on both the shock lengthens. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/chassis/harley_ davidson_kt_omponents_sofspension_install.html |

No Biggie, but the HillBilly site lists it as an AST. http://www.hillbilly-motors.com/html/xbrr_chronos_ datasheet.html One of the forum sponsors, Trojan, sells them. (Message edited by jamesearthdrum on April 13, 2009) |
