Can the stock front turn signals be modified to act as running lights? I am guessing I will need a whole new a "three" wire set up. |

I just installed new turn signals on my bike. You will need to convert it to a 3 wire setup and use a dual filament bulb. It shouldn't be that hard to do. Just tap into the front headlight running light using a relay for the running light. Have you found any turn signals that has a running light/3 wire setup? I'm interested also. |

To go from the 1156 single element bulb( equal pin) to the dual element 1157(staggered pin) you have to change the bulb socket and as Tdman said grab a ign. hot wire and reground the new socket ........ hope that makes sense. |

i had been putting the aluminum 3 wire LP signals on my tubers and tied into the instrument light wires for the front and the license plate light for the rear. the all plastic 3 wire signals had issues with heat disfiguration. $20 a pair iirc. tim |

It's probably more work than just swapping to an aftermarket 3-wire setup, but has anyone tried routing 2 wires to the hot side of the stock signals? I would think that a small resistor on the running light wire, and a diode on the turn signal wire would produce the desired effect. |

I read in another thread that our plastic housings can't take a constant on all the time bulb's heat. I would suggest installing an LED replacement. |

Thanks for the input. Al sells a three wire turn signal and is reasonably priced but I was not aware of the plastic disfigurement issues. Seems like a lot of work fiddling with the stock to get it to work. |

There was some kit that used a fancy little relay to leave the stock bulbs on all the time and then blinked the bulbs off instead of the other way around. If this kit was used, the stock bulbs would kill the housings. I was thinking that the fancy kit would be a good thing if you install the LED "bulbs" also. |

The Kisan SM-1 kit has a automatic turn-signal canceller that also has a running light option. Amber running lights aren't legal in California, so I also had to get the clear lenses, and red bulbs, for the rear. Worked real good, UNTIL I put the hot coil/single-fire ignition on, now the running lights work but the flashers don't flash. Oh well. |
