I know that Buell used at least two inverted forks on tube frame bikes, one by WP and one by Showa. Does anyone know how these compare? Also, what about adaptation of the newer XB forks? Yup, thinking about a fork upgrade for my M2. Thanks, Dave |

don't forget the ROMAs, from the S2, and possibly Rs/Rss etc. they were quite popular with the racers for awhile, more adjustable i think. |

Dave, when you decide, PM me. I'll have a set of either style for sale...Unless I sell them before you PM me. Yes, I know..I have like 3 sets of USD forks, and only one bike...I'll sell a set for what I paid... |

sticking with OP's varied questions: aren't XB forks functionally exactly the same as X1 forks, but shorter & with ZTL caliper mounting? |

XB forks are also preload adjustable but the adjusters won't clear the bars on tubers using the standard tripples. |

I'm interested in this post as well. In addition to Dave's questions, is there a front end from another manufacturer that is a fairly easy swap. Something common from a Suzuki, Kawi, etc would be more plentiful. |

I don't think that's possible...Don't think anyone has caliper mounts that match up...could be wrong though... |

A frontend from a different manufacturer would be pretty easy swap but you would have to use ALL of that front end, i.e. Wheels, brakes, axle, fender. You would have to modify the triple trees to use a 1" steering stem. Not too uncommon; I've seen it a lot on Sporties, and even some Buells. You could use a 996 frontend and have a perfectly matching front wheel and dual discs with brembos- I've seen that before. Some of the other Ducs also had the 3-spoke Brembo wheels that are a perfect match to the marchesinis and Buell wheels. Here's an intersting fact that I discovered a while back as a side note. All of the late base model Ducatis have cast wheels that are labeled as Marchesinis, but have BREMBO cast into the mold on one of the spokes. Only the forged Marchesinis do not have the Brembo logo. Another thing to consider is that the ROMAs are the best, but they are 2" taller than the other forks because the S2s use clipons that mount above the triples. |

i saw an S1 that had a GSXR1000 front end swap, still had the three spoke and 120 tire but with dual disc and whatever forks those things came with (Ohlins?), he matched it up with the rear wheel that sports a 190 tire... it was a real clean set up... wish i could find pics! |

I'd be dying to know why you'd put a set of GSXR1000 forks on an S1. The S2's were sought after by racers. My first Buell has the Marzochi front end. |

Court, Did the S2 have Roma forks? If so, how can these be identified? I am either going to put standard length tubes in my conventional forks on my M2 Low or replace the stock fork with an inverted male-slider fork and, if I am going to do that, I want the best possible fork design. Which approach would you think best? Thanks, Dave |

Court, One more thing: I really like the S2 clip-ons so the extra 2" in length would be a good thing from my perspective. Dave |

Dave, if you are considering S2 clipons you should realize that the S2 has 1" Harley controls... |

the other cool thing about the romas, is you have the extra above the top clamp, to put clip ons a bit higher than the other forks. don't need to use the s2 style. |
