Hey everyone, I finally pulled my 02 M2 apart to replace my drive gear with a bronze race gear. When I slipped the gear on the pinion shaft I expected a snug fit. The gear just slid on w/ a slight wiggle. I would say it has about .003-.005 clearance between pinion shaft OD to bronze gear ID. Is this correct?

The later engines are made to take apart with out PULLERS ...

Make sure you TORQUE the pinion shaft nut(& RED locite)to 70 ft. lbs and not the 35 to 45 ft. lbs as in the FSM !!!

Now ya tell me!!! Just kidding Thanks for the info. Well I did use RED Locite and torqued it to the higher side of 45 ft.lbs. I installed the 2007-08 Oil Pump w/ the Bronze gear so I'll have both gears new but I was concerned about that looseness so I used Red Locite on that too

The 35-45ft lbs. comes from the manual but doing some research some wrenches torque it to 70ft lbs. too make sure it don't come lose. I'm going to post this on the tuber forum, to see if anyone else notice the loose gear fitting.
