Does motor turn over? Sidestand switches and clutch switches are a pain. And an obvious one--did you put the old coil back in and try it? And on my S-2's I had 2 timing cups break, always carried a spare after that. |

The timing coil is in the round snout on the cam cover. Its attached to the end of one of the cams and is shaped like a cup with notches in it. On top of that (the first thing you see when you remove the cover - drill the rivets, it's the only way) is the electronic pickup. Pull the electronic pickup and make sure the cup is attached securely to the cam, and crank the bike over to make sure it spins. Look for contact marks on the pickup from the cup. You say "thunderstorm top end" - did you change cams? Or just heads/pistons? Last check - and they always bite me in the ass - check your intake seals, both at the heads and at the carb. |

shes alive! found the problem, it was a broken wire in the harness from the stator to the module. I was working on it till 3am so i havent started it yet but it has spark. as soon as my hangover goes away ill go start breaking her in. thanks BWB. |

I wasn't sure (on the intake seals) if you'd verified no spark, or just no-go-bangy on each cylinder and assumed it was spark. I've had intake seals that I installed so poorly (Mssr's Anheuser and Busch had *nothing* to do with that!) they didn't create any vacuum to the cylinder - and thus, no bangy when the hamfisted mechanic (myself) attempted to start the engine. Glad you (seem to have) found the issue! |
