So if you are following my other post you know I snapped an exhaust stud. I figured while it is down and apart that it would be a good time to replace the other 3 as preventative maintenance. The fwd one on the front jug is the easiest to get to so I started on that one. I PB blasted it and let it sit for a day. I double nutted it, no luck. I vice gripped it, no luck. Will heat do the trick? Save any "don't worry about it comments because now the threads are screwed on this one. I could run a die over it but would like to replace these at this time just to get them out of the way and not be in the same boat in a month. Am I just missing heat or is there some other trick? |

After seeing all the recent threads about exhaust stud problems I decided to go ahead and replace mine also. I had a nut fall off on the front just before the winter. In one of the threads someone said they used this tool: http://www.midwayautosupply.com/pc-11600-342-lisle -stuck-bolt-nut-and-stud-remover-set-19250.aspx I found a set at SEARS and gave it a go. I PB blasted it for a couple of days and all the sutds came out using the tool. I got my new studs from Al at American Sport Bike. |

this is what Oldog suggested, and the route i'll probably take; i may try the lisle extractor instead of double nutting. "I double nutted and loctited the studs allowing the loctite to set, I sprayed "PB blaster" on the stud and allowed it to sit too. Then I used a deep socket and an air impact wrench to remove them, they must not "try to bend or twist" the only force that I applied to them was rotational they came out fairly easy." |

this extractor looks pretty good too; http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/may29895.html don't know if this is the cheapest vendor. |

+1 on the impact wrench. I forgot to mention that I used one to get the studs out. |

A 50/50 mix of brake fluid and acetone kicks PB Blaster's ass. Just don't sniff it or get any of it on painted surfaces. |
