I have the cable, software, and driver all set, but I am stuck with trying to get the software to link to my bike. Seems to be a port issue. Anyone interested in a telephone conversation to walk me through the set-up? I can make time on my dime just about anytime over the next several day. Thanks Dennis 513.479.1099 |

Thanks Bob - I missed your call by a nano sec - I WILL WAITING. I didn't call back because your number was private blocked.....when you call me, I'll get your number, then take my equipment to the garage, then call you right back. |

Make sure you download the driver for the cable. It has a converter circuit at the USB end that needs its driver to be recognized by Windoze. Sorry, just read your other post... I just clicked "auto" for the comms and it all works fine. Z (Message edited by zac4mac on February 27, 2009) |

Find somebody nearby with the Spy setup and check your cable and laptop in a known good system. You may have a bad cable. There's a bunch of BWBers in the Cincy area. I know Slypiranna(Montgomery Markle) is in Ohio somewhere, he has it. Dave Leppelmeier aka Xb9 is in Ohio. They both can be found on the 1125 board... Z |

test the cable by itself first without the bike as in the ecmspy manual. Place a paperclip or a small piece of wire jumping the orange and yellow wires. Open up Hyperteminal (from windows/accessories/communication.) and open new connection. Make sure you use the highest com port # and flow is set to "none". When you hit any key it should show on the screen. If not the cable is bad or drivers still not working. |

Did you ever get it going? I had a similar problem and can walk you thru what I had to do to get it working for me. |

Tdman77 - thanks for your offer - I am going to take you up on that... I have to be out of town on business until Fri-nite. Any chance we could hook up on Fri-nite or Sat morn, or Sun sometime? tx, dennis |

I had a similar issue not long ago. Perhaps the manufacturer confused the wires positions. This Happened to me. Try to swap the wires positions as in this picture. This may not be your problem but it’s an idea.... * 1 - orange (ECM receive) * 2 - black (ground) * 3 - yellow (ECM transmit) * 4 - not connected

S3t - Either day would work. I work the graveyard shift so call after noon. 815-593-0585 Tom Like Buellisticx1 said, check the wiring on the plug first. My problem was getting the driver to work on my handmedown laptop. It kicked my butt at first then after playing around with the drivers it worked fine. |

Save your time. Run the HyperTerminal loopback test. As long as that fails EcmSpy will also. No need to fumble around with port numbers or port settings. |

Thanks guys - I had an IT guy look at the driver and port configurations - he made an adjustment....I tried it tonite - it freaking worked?????? So the issue was with the configuration on my laptop. Now.....fuel pump diagnostics .... tells me that the fuel pump is shorted to ground or open. I have the service manual....it lists 2 failures modes for short.... 1) will cause the ignition fuse to blow (nope), and 2) will cause the pump to run continuously even while the motor is not running (nope). Last one is that the pump will stall before it can provide pressure - when I last checked, the pressure would be anywhere between 20 and 50 lbs...so rather inconsistent..... With all of that, does short to ground really mean that the pump has just shorted out???..seems like I'd get nothing out of it if that was the case..... Thanks for any additional advise S3T |
