How are you guys/gals shortening the tail section bodywork on the Cyclone? I've noticed a couple on here that were mod'd and I was just wondering how you did it. Thanks |

Cut-off wheel, sort of melts thru the plastic leaving no chips or splits. |

I use an air powered body saw from Harbor Freight ($12.00). It has a very small stroke and a thin blade for curves |

I guess I should of asked it a different way, sorry everybody. Those of you that have modified your tail section, can you list the steps and possibly show pics on how you did it? Showing stuff to look out for, to do, not to do, etc. USA Baby!! |

It is simple - tape over the area you want to cut. Mark the cut line on the tape. Cut. Enjoy. |

Thanks Tripp, found exactly what I needed. I always forget about that search feature. I own a 25r but am very fond of the tubers as well.

I have a 2000 M2 and put the X1 tail on mine. I just cut away the mounts of the X1 tail that got in the way untill it would just slip over the M2 subframe. Then made a mounting bar the went across the front of the tail. That mounts into the tank bolt. Then I drilled out three small bolt holes for mounting the rear of the tail onto the subframe. After that I made a seatpan from fiberglass and cut and molded seat foam just as I wanted. After that took the pan and foam and had it covered. The seat cost me around $110 for getting it covered. Then I put a cateye tail light in under the tail. Alittle work but well worth it IMO. Plus it flows very well with the M2 tank. But as you can see I have done alittle more then that with my M2.

I love the x1 tail... Any chance of getting some better pics of how its mounted to the subframe and would a standard X1 seat pan work on it? Psy |

Thank you, I will work on some better photos for you all later tonight. I have had it sitting for about 2 years now so.... Yes, you can use the seat pan from the X1 tail. But, you will need to get some plastic and plastic weld about another 6" worth on the front. Thats all I did was cut about 90% of the brace work out from under the x1 tail. Then the biggest pain was cutting into the bolt holes on the side. The same holes you see from the side. They are about 2" thicker then the tail and must be gone for it too slip over your frame. For the rear mounts it's about as easy as it gets. The X1 tails point for the seat pin lines up with the same one as your M2. So I just put three smaller holes around that and used a small nut and bolt set. Then for the seat pin I just used a bolt with a nut set in the seat pan. I dont see why you couldnt do the same with the stock X1 seat pan. Just unscrew the mounting pin and find a bolt that fits. the holes line up 100% so its easy. Like I said its been sitting for about 2 years now so please understand its gona be alittle dusty n dirty. Also, if anyone likes the wings I have on the tank I can get them for you. Aswell as the Buell on the tank. Under the Buell name in smaller letters it say's " American street fighter" and the wings are in a white with gold trim that look near 3d in person. I worked with a graphics shop here for about a month getting them just rite for the M2 tank. I can order these in about any color you would want. |
