Just found this site. Pretty cool. I currently own a 2000 Buell S3T and a 1999 Triumph Legend. Previously owned a 2001 M2 Cyclone. Use my Buell as my sport touring bike. Have tried to keep bike stock but have needed to replace some pieces with better pieces due to part failure. Bread box replaced with Forcewinder. Rear shock replaced with Penske. Penske is awesome. Ownership experience has been kind of love/hate relationship. However when I am winding the bike out in 3rd and 4th gear nothing is better. |

"If your looking to buy some talk to Wilson" too true.. Welcome S3ter! Owning a tuber is definitely not for everyone. I think you've got to enjoy turning wrenches as much as carving corners, but these bikes are well worth it. |

Jim, you are truly a wealth of information and helpful to boot! The S3 is a great two up bike and a bargain in the market place. |

I do enjoy turning a wrench and have done a lot of work on both of the Buells I've owned. The only thing that has ever happened to the S3T that irritated me was a motor mount bolt broken off in the cylinder head. I was a little nervous on my 200+ mile ride home with one motor mount bolt intact. Main reason it made me mad was that I could not fix it myself. HD charged me over $500 in labor for a $5 part. |

HD charged me over $500 in labor for a $5 part. lotta time fishing out that bolt If they tore it down the gasket set would have run 50$, what amazes me is that the other one did not break as well. Bolt extraction in close confines is a tough job, I used to make a living doing stuff like that. |

They removed the cylinder head and sent it to a machine shop that charged $50 to get the broken bolt out. The remaining $450 was charged by the HD dealership to remove the cylinder head and reassemble. I had them replace the other bolt while everything was apart. I enjoy working on the bike. Recently replaced battery and rear shock with a Penske. $900 shock but worth every pennie. Fully adjustable including seat height. Very sporty but also soaks up every bump. Really incredible. I agree that if you can't turn a wrench you shouldn't own a Buell. Its only when I have to pay HD to keep it going does it get to me a little. I have owned Triumphs, Ducatis, and every conceivable jap bike. There is nothing like the torque and PULL generated by a Buell. Owned a 2001 M2 Cyclone with D&D exhaust, Forcewinder, Mikuni and high performance ECU. That bike was such a beast it was almost unrideable in town. Got rid of it and bought a Monster. However I missed the asphalt ripping torque of my Buell so I bought the S3T for touring. |

Welcome Phil -- I've got a Green 2000 S3 as well-- not the T -- but I did find some big green bags on E-Bay for touring. You've got it right -- it is a love hate relationship -- kind of reminds me of that girl back in high school that would break your heart every other week but even though you knew she'd do it again you went right back to her -- I finally bought a new FJR to ride on the really long tours or when the Buell is being finicky -- but I certainly prefer the Buell -- |
