hello, my name is william and i just bought a 99 buell lightning x1. i love it but i have to get some work done to it ,(muffler, and its back firing ,spitting & spattering w/the check engine light on while there is no muffler on it.) any advise any one can give me as well as a recommendation as to where i can get cheep parts and to get it worked on at, greenville,sc. chicagodawgs@bellsouth.net |

William, download ECMSpy from off of the internet then buy a ECMSpy cable off of ebay, hook it up and read the codes and then you'll know what to do from there. |

What exactly has been done to the bike that you know of? Just reading your post and profile it sounds as though you might have opened up the air and exhaust and are using the factory ECM. If that's the case then you are probably running pretty lean and popping and cracking. Depending on how you want to run it I'd either go back all stock; air cleaner, muffler and ECM. If you want a little more umph get a K&N, aftermarket exhaust of your choice and a race ECM. Also, go to the Stormfronts section and look to see who's in your area.
