thanks guys, and i assume the OEM snorkel is underneath the airbox ( i have yet to take it apart) and how well does it work? | ||

I am in the same predicament. Buellistic - How or what do you use to cover those 2 holes at the elbow on the snorkel? I have seen pics but can't see what was done to cover the holes. | ||

"i" used JB Weld ... Drilled 4 holes in the middle of openings(flange) so the plugs could not be drawn into the intake ... Trim'ed just enough off the snorkel(wanted to keep as much of the tuned factory length as possible) to install a K&N RC-3680 TAPERED ... Made a spacer out of an old crash damaged air cleaner backing plate so it could be installed as a spacer looking like the BIG $$$.$$ FORCE unit and RACE'ie ... In FLORIDA "i" ride more or less no matter what the weather is ... What "i" found that in the RAIN the expose'ed air cleaner was not a good idea ... "SO" "i" put it back in the AIR BOX which is now a "BETTER" PRODUCT IMPROVED air box ... It then had the benefit of the intake taking the packed in, undisturbed air ... The only way to make the air box better is to run a hose(ie: dryer hose, but it does not look good unless hidden by a fairing like the metric bikes)underneith the triple tree or smaller hoses on both sides of the forks ... | ||

Lafayette is right about running an open intake filter in the rain, it does suck bad. My bike bogs down bad with the crazy downpours we get in the south | ||

I have the billet aluminum round k & n from american sportbike and it works very well, But i do not ride my bike's in the rain ever! I have seen a few round open air filters that had some skull covers that look ok, But most are online only and i wasn't going to waste my time ordering and have them not match up as most were HD air cleaners, there is a lot of carb'ed crap out there. | ||

so can i ran a carbed intake on the x1 with the use of banjo bolts from american sportbike, with some hoses for the breathers? | ||

Carb with FI ?? bracket yes, as long as the TB mounting holes match, and yes you can run banjo bolts. | ||

I just checked out some different intakes for my X1. It looks like as long as the intake will fit a 40mm CV carb then it will fit on the FI bikes. You may need a spacer for clearance with the tank and will need to find a way to install the air temp sensor. I am thinking of getting a S&S teardrop cleaner and drilling a hole for the sensor and switch to a catch can. | ||

I used new (not ever placed on a bottle) beer bottle caps, upside down, and siliconed in. They rest perfectly in the holes. Left the box in place. | ||

I use the RD 0720. 2.5 inlet 3.5 o.d. 6.0 length About $27.00 at my local auto parts store. | ||

check out airtech. i have their fiberglass tear shaped filter that fits inside the frame. this intake is well worth the money, and it is cheaper than just about everything aftermarket out there. i know airtech says its not for an x1, the only reason is there is no provision for the iat sensor, i just drilled a hole in the backing plate and put a grommet in it.   | ||

That does look really nice and I like the fact that it fits right in the frame. I just looked it up and for ~$157 looks like a good deal. Did the placement of the IAT cause any issues? | ||

The engine moves with respect to the tube frame. Does that airtech allow for this? Some sort of rubber dingus between the throttle body and the backplate like the stocker? | ||

So are you saying that the entire OEM breadbox moves relative to the frame? The last time I checked the breadbox was "clamped" to the frame in three spots and I just can't see how it could move... Are you sure? | ||

The only movement is allowed by the rubber grommet at the snorkel mounting point. This is the only part that cam move. | ||

Don't know about the X1, but the S1 and S3 air boxes don't attach to the frame at all. Dean | ||

my airtech intake doesnt touch the frame at all, it fits in the frame but there is a gap between it. imo the airtech looks absolutely perfect on a buell, almost like it was made for it!!! oh wait it was.... most aftermarket intakes with a backing plate like the airtech just have a hole in the backing plater for the iat. my iat is actually hanging inside the intake in front of the filter. havent had any issues at all. i have seen guys mount the iat outside the intake and still say they had no problems, but i would make sure the iat gets put in the intake ait stream. | ||

 by far the sickest intake for an x1. i looked forever then found some type of site and emailed somebody but never heard anything back. im sure if somebody was good enough with fiberglass that they could make this from a round alluminum intake like American Sport Bike sells! and that x1 is just nasty too! | ||

Do you guys know if a sporty XL motor force winder would work on the buell x1, I know it needs a spacer but it looks the same to me, Anyone have any input! I am going to try the econo winder mod but ultimately want a force intake. the only difference between the injected forcewinders and the carbed ones is the provision in the filter for the iat and the spooge lines from the head. all you would need to do is run a catch can setup off the head breather bolts and drill a hole in the tube with a grommet for the iat sensor. so its up to you how much work you wanna do, or cut into a new part. | ||
