Folks, What are the locations of the grease fittings in an X1? I do have a FSM but having trouble finding the locations...For example, it says to grease the swingarm bushing/bearings but I don't see an actual "fitting". How about neck bearing, wheel bearing, etc? And if there is no real fitting, how do you folks put grease on these moving parts? Thanks in advance. | ||

I believe you are looking in the right places; the problem is that there are no fittings to find. When I did the swingarm and steering stem bearings, I removed them and inspected/greased them 'on the workbench'. Pretty much the same for the wheel bearings. FWIW, I seem to remember threads from time to time in the distant past where folks have installed fittings on their own; perhaps they will chime in. | ||

Installing Zerk fittings with out MAJOR re work will not work, the frame head and swing arm on the 99-02 bikes are open to the rest of the structure, adding grease will just fill the cavity you must re grease them by hand. | ||

There are no grease fittings on my 97 S3T, "BUT" when "i" get to it the front fork and swing arm bearings will have a grease fitting ... | ||

Thanks folks. Well, I am really not ready (or willing and able for that matter) to take things apart just for the purpose of greasing the moving parts...Sounds like a lot of work specially since things seem to be in good proper working order. I guess I will just "shove" some grease around the swingarm bearing area and leave it there for now. Oh one other thing...How about lubricating the throttle and clutch cable? | ||

Kalali: dont do that! the swing arm is sealed and the steering head is shrouded all you will do is make a mess! I am doing the SH now the breakdown took about 2 hours and I dont work fast, the bearings will eventualy fail, most likely with short warning, the service is not difficult on either end of the X1 2 car stands and a bottle jack will do for the front, a 6~8' ladder 2 straps and a jack for the rear ( i use a stand on the left passenger foot rest to help steady the bike and a jack under the rear of the motor the swing arm seals need to be replaced after inspection / replacement of the bearings. the tail end is fiddley but not that difficult when you think through it once, 2 things mark how the rear iso's cone off, and get some allen bolts from American Sport Bike and S ##$% T can the torx bolts they suck! there are several posts in the KV on how this is to be done. The cables can be lubed by using a pressure injector setup again I got mine at American Sport Bike, or remove them and secure a plastic bag around one end hang that end of the cable up and fill the bag with some light oil, put a pan under the bottom to catch it as it runs out of the sheath, FYI there is an o-ring in the primary case as you remove the clutch cable try not to damage it. or spend a few bux with American Sport Bike or some one and get a cable luber and a can of lube its a little easier ( hang up is better but a pita ) | ||

Definitely grease the steering stem regularly! If you don't then you will have to REPLACE the bearing race which is 10 times more work and downtime than simply re-greasing the steering stem. I'd suggest you do it everytime you change the front tire. You're halfway there in removing the steering assembly anyways... | ||

C'mon man get a factory service manual. I've seen you on other forums asking questions, I do it to. But once i procured the manual it answered so many questions. | ||
