Ok,I'm gonna tear down my 2000 M2 for a repaint and tranny repair this month and decided I want to install a performance cam too. The bike is mostly stock except for the Forcewinder intake and the Vance and Hines slip on. I intend on having a carb built to suit the mods done in the end. I am looking for something that will give me a decent boost in the middle of the powerband...I do a variety of driving and love my low end torque so I dont want to loose any if possible. The heads are stock for now but my get ported in the future. thanks for you help |

Pete, the SE536 cams are good ones but they will require new stiffer springs. I've got a low mileage set that I would sell for 225.00 plus shipping. The SE497 cams work great and were stock in the X1's and S3's. I've got a low mileage set that I would let go for 125.00 plus shipping. These don't require any changes to your bike. If you want to learn about cams for your bike give Dan a call at NRHS performance. |

Neither the Andrews N4 or N8 cams require a spring change. They are strictly "bolt-in cams" and alter duration far more than lift. I'm running N8's in my M2. You shift the power band up from about 2K to 3K, but no longer run out of juice at 5500; they pull like a freight train all the way to the rev limiter. I had to modify my riding style a bit, but with every cam there's a trade-off. The N4 is essentially the same grind as the Screamin' Eagle Lightning cam used in all S3/X1 motors with Thunderstorm heads. Probably a little more forgiving than the N8's. Ask yourself exactly what you are looking for.....and what trade-offs you are willing to make in exchange for performance! My M2 is much harder to turn over since installing the N8's due to altered duration (resulting in higher cranking compression) Just another thing to consider. |

I've got the bolt in SE cams. Along with some head work, valve work, forged pistons and new lifters. I'm very pleased with the outcome. Also have the Vance and Hines slip on, SE air filter and carb work. |

Swap out the cams for when you actually DO the head swap and carb work. It doesn't make much sense to swap out cams when you're going to do tranny work. There's not much point in getting the valve timing setup for higher rev breathing when you're still limited by your heads and carb... Instead invest the money in a Baker 5 or 6 sp tranny instead. I can highly recommend it and wish Buell had Baker as their OEM supplier. When you actually do the port and carb work try the SE536. |
