Hey all, I am not sure as to how many others have had this happen, but my rear shock went to shiznit on my 99 X1, so there is a gold valve kit from Racetech you can buy, but there are two shocks on the 99 and back models, supposedly you can only rebuild one of them and guess which on I have...of course Murphy's Law is in effect and you cannot supposedly rebuild mine..anyway, I took the thing apart, tried to put the Racetech system in with the new valve stack to no avail as well as no luck finding the seal. Racetech has really good tech support by the way, so they told me the CBR600RR uses the same seal..trying to make a long story short with no luck...anyway I could get the seal to work, the shock came apart only after disintegrating some vital snap rings and I figured I was F ed on that deal but on a whim I took my shock up to Action Kawasaki here in bradenton florida. They have a guy they farm out their suspension work to that has been rebuilding suspensions since christ was in linen's, so I figured what could I lose??? Well he rebuilt the shock, put in the valve stack, the racetech system the whole nine yards, seal refilled the nitrogen and everything for $180.00. The replacement ran from $395.00 to $495.00 from the stealerships and ebay, and most of the ebay shocks I came up with were leaking as well...anyway I am not sure if anyone else was interested, but I will be putting the shock back on and fixing the front brake soon so I cannot wait to give a report as to how well it handles after that. See ya'll. |
