I have a 2001 M2 that I bought this fall. Looks like it is missing some sort of steering bumpers, because when you turn it sharp the starter button hits the tank. When I bought the bike, I noticed it had one rubber bumper on one side, but the other side was missing. Well, I noticed the other one is now missing. That one had looked kind of make-shift anyhow. Not sure if it was factory or not. Does anyone have information on these? Is this something I can simply get at the dealer to replace the missing ones, or...? Do all the M2's have these rubber bumpers or is this something the previous owner modified? |

The bumpers are stock, p/n Z0023.L for a kit with bumpers and adhesive. They'll probably have to order it, but it can't be that expensive. |

THose "bumpers" are only like 1/16" thick. I do not believe they're meant to function as limiting the steering. Your handlebars and or controls may need minor adjustment. I say that because i once attempted to adjust my X1 bars and forced them to contact my gas tank |

My bumpers were closer to 1/2-3/4" & yep, they started to fall off right away. I used Gorilla glue & held them while the glue dried with black electrical tape. I wonder if the glue dried yet...I never did take the tape off. It's not really to "limit the steering" so much as to protect the frame & fork tubes. The ones I have are about a half inch thick (they're tapered to fit the frame), and do act as a stop. .
But adjusting the bars is a good idea, given that it's still a close thing. |

I just cut some pieces out of an old radiator hose I had laying around, it is pre curved and just the right thickness. I just cut them to shape and contact glued them on. They have been on for 15000klm's now with no dramas

bumpers were installed for a reason. replacement is cheap and easy. less of a chance to chip tank, too. my replacements have been on for 3 years. |

I have a stock 2001 M2 Cyclone and they are .5 or 1/2 inch thick and it has 14,000 on it. It is made to act as a bumper and as a steering limiter. A half inch there makes a big difference out at the end of the handlebars. I did some quick measurements and 1/2 at 4" from center equals about 2" at the end of the handlebars. Hope it helps and good luck. |
