OK, this is a longshot. Everywhere I look up a part number for the ORIGINAL fuel tank decals for an S1W, the number supersedes to the later-style "badges". I want to get my original tank repainted locally, and have the original under-clearcoat decals on it. Not that I don't like the badge style on my "goodwill" tank...but I love the look and feel of the under-clear decals on my S2 and want that look/feel back on my S1W. Does anyone know how/if I can get these things? They're blue BUELL letters with either black or charcoal (I'll look at what's left of my original tank) "American Motorcycles" text underneath. My painter is good enough he could reproduce the look with paint, no problem...but I like the little bulge the decals give, and I really want it to be as "original" as possible. |

Joe, last year when I ordered the badges for my tank I told them I wanted the raised ones and they got the decals instead. I went ahead and had the painter put them on, sorry Joe, wish I could help. Frank |

Does anyone know how/if I can get these things? They are readily available and I have a catalog of every decal ever used on a Buell since 1986. Send me a photo of what you are wanting, if you have or can get it, and I'll get you everything you need. |

When I was repainting my S1W (Pearl White) tank, I ordered the "raised decals" 4 times. Each time they sent the original flat decals. It was a real b!tch to find the raised ones. I'm guessing the "originals" shouldn't be too hard to get. |

I wonder if the part numbers are crossed in the parts book? I may just go to the local dealership and order 1 of each and see what I get. |

I may try that too, just to see. Sounds like it could be a hit or miss process...my luck, I'll miss. So, who needs raised decals when that's what they send me? lol For my raised-letter tank, though, I'm seriously considering getting a set of the '09 1125r letters, from a white/blue bike. They're this bad-ASS blue chrome with matte black outline. Niiicceee....pictures don't do 'em justice, we've got one at work in that color and it's gorgeous. |

Joe, I am doing up another set of body work and tried to get a part number for the blue S2T decals for the Quick Silver body work. It is not in my parts book. Would you happen to have the part number??? Frank |

I can look...'96, I'm guessing. I have to go by today anyway, still sorting out the particulars for my return to work. |

Frank: Drop me a note if you and Joe have any problem finding them. I have a catalog of the Buell graphics. The bad news is I just looked for it and don't see it on the shelves. That generally means I filed it and it will resurface in another decade. The good news is that Buell has a "King of all Graphics" guy who can quickly get the info. Court |

Alright. I found part numbers for the decals, they were in the 95/96 parts book at work and according to H-Dnet, they all supercede. No idea if they change to badges, or if they stay decals....but the description for all stayed "decal, fuel tank cover". They didn't reference paint color, only show decal color. Here's all three out of the book, listed below as decal color; original number; new number (yes, they end in "AA/AA.#"; all "0" are zero, not "oh"): Dk Gray / Lt Gray; 14600-95Y; M0730GR/GR.8 White / Blue; 14601-95Y; M0730WH/BL.8 White / Gray; 14602-95Y; M0730WH/GR.8 All the new numbers show available. All the original numbers show obsolete. The white/blue shows in stock at Pikes Peak HD (dunno how close/far that is for you). The white/gray shows in stock at Liberty - maybe they can put hands on it, if they actually have it, and clarify if it's a decal or a badge for us. I'll send an email I also found the numbers for the S1W - Blue / Navy Blue; 14742-98Y; M0740.G. Nobody nearby or helpful showing it in stock Now...re-reading your post, what parts book do you have? I want to say they were on page 71...but in the index, it's just "decals", whatever page that says. Do you have the page, and just not the color you're looking for? I also realize that I should have looked up tail and fairing decals for you too, sorry. I can do that soon enough, just let me know |

Joe, I was looking for all of them and I think I may be confused... Not the first time. I just looked at the bike (96 S2T) and they are a light blue color with "American Motorcycles" in a little darker blue for the tank. The other ones are a light blue. As far as page 71 there is nothing listed for the S2T for the rear fairing (tail section I assume). The S2T and S2 decals are different for the rear fairing but only the S2 is listed. I have a feeling 14601-95y is the blue one I need for the tank but it is listed as blue/white not blue/blue. I may go to Pikes Peak HD just to see what color it actually is. Thanks for the help. I will let you know what comes up. |

Just a thought (and I think the "Buell" is a more lavender on your bike, if I recall the color scheme), but maybe the S1W tank set is close? Warning - relative carnage here, it's the original tank....
I'll look at work and see what I can find on the T tail decal. I know it had a specific listing for the tank cover for the white/gray, as 96 S2T...but I don't remember even looking at tail/fairing numbers, sorry. |

Joe, the last time I was there, Miller's in Daytona had quite a few Buell decals. You might get lucky. |

Joe, the color for the S1W blue and the S2T blue is different. The S1W is a lot darker. I am going to Pikes Peak HD and buy every S2 decal they have. OFF TOPIC: Pikes Peak HD has a used Uly (2006) for sale. It has been on ebay a few times and is on there now. I looked at it when they had it at their other store and it looked very rough. I offered them 6K for it and they turned me down. I thought that was a fair price considering the condition it was in. In my guesstimation they have had it at least 6 months. If I go up to Pikes Peak HD to look at decals there is no telling what I will walk out with. Of course I do not buy bikes from that dealership but if a deal happens it happens. I wonder if Lynn will notice the Uly if I trade in the Firebolt.. |

Frank - Lynn may not notice the Uly...but I'm sure she'll notice your absence when you're out riding the thing all the time, LOL. Good luck |

Just a question... Once you repaint your tank, is it possible the bubbling will return? |

Mikeyp, it is possible. It is all in the prep and base coat. I am not a painter so that is what I have been told. My 97 S1 never did that, my 98 S1W was doing it when I bought it. I have never seen it as bad as Ratbuell's tank. I found a painter in Santa Fe NM that rode a S1 so I did not have to explain anything to him. He knew what to do. I wish I could tell you what has to be done and how to prep it. It would be great info for those that know how to do that sort of thing. Frank |

Joe, I picked up the white/blue decals at the HD place today and it was the only ones they had so I was not able to see what the other colors where. I asked about the light blue ones for the 96 S2T and they could not tell what the color would be and they did not list any specific number for the light blue S2T decals so I may be out of luck. If you get a chance can you check on this for me. A part number would be great for all the decals. BTW: I only stopped by there today because I was on my way to the Apple store to pickup my MacBook. I have to tell you, a lot of places (our local HD dealershio comes to mind) can learn a lot from Apple. They were packed but I was in and out in under 15 minutes. I talked to two people that knew the product inside and out and it was a pleasant experience. The only thing the HD dealership do for me was piss me off. I was looking for a parts person. I explained to sales guy that I needed to look at a few parts for a Buell and he said "what, a turn signal" I guess he was implying that I dropped it or something. No idea. They suck. Stay away from Pikes Peak and Colorado Springs HD. It is a shame because under the last owner they were an excellent Buell dealership. I am done with rant... Let me know if you can find anything with those part numbers Joe.. Frank |
