I have read a few posts here that talk about the M2 shocks being junk. I have not ridden my bike yet..except to get it home. How do I tell if the shock is blown? Will it be obvious when I ride it, or can I tell by inspecting it? Also, is it rebuildable? Thanks. |

I think they are talking about the shock before the recall. does your shock have the little canister coming off of it? |

Mine has no canister coming off of it, but the vin shows that it got the goodwill shock after the recall- did they have any without the canister? I know mine is blown, its acting like driving a truck with no shocks; trying to figure out what to replace it with. |

I'm not sure i do know that the one on my bike is the most up to date one out for the tube frame bikes. notice the canister mounted just above the shock. |

mainem. if you push your bike down in the back and it just springs back. like with no pressure on the bike. like a plain spring is on your bike. then its prob blown. if it is soft and it has compression and rebound pressure prob good still. is it leaking at all. if so.... problem. |

Mine does have the canister on it. Hopefully that means it is a better shock. I will have to see how it rebounds later this week. Its in the single digits outside right now and I have no heat in the garage...ha! |

I don't know if the previous answers helped or not, but personally I was clueless to this answer for a long time. Compress the shock by putting weight on the back end of the bike. If it ONLY comes back to a normal position when you take weight off, then its good. If the shock is bad, it will bounce up and down a couple times. My apologies for being redundant, but 6 months ago I wouldn't have understood the previous answers. |

You should be able to feel the dampening. It should not feel like your riding a hard tail with a saddle seat with bare springs. I know cause I have one. If it is bad you'll feel like your riding a pogo stick. I also adjusted the Buell shock for my weight and riding style. Hey Good Luck. |

Will it be obvious when I ride it, or can I tell by inspecting it? Also, is it rebuildable? The stock shock isn't junk for normal riding. Especially on your '01. If it is leaking you can consider it blown. It isn't rebuildable by the user. It can be mailed off but the cost of a shop rebuild isn't worth it imo. The stock '01/02 shock has adjustments in 2 or 3 places. Check your service manual and try adjusting it to suit your taste. |

Mine went right after I bought it (used) and there was no doubt; everywhere I parked was a half-dollar sized puddle. And then there were no more puddles. |
