Hey all i was riding in today and low fuel light came on so i stopped and filled her up, And now it runs terrible at 75% throttle. I carry a trouble code dongle with me when im riding. The codes are 1-1 tps sensor and 1-6 iat sensor. My question is what do you guys think is wrong (I only ask this dumb question because i cant find my ecm cable, moving apts.)I hope it just needs a tps reset, i have another iat sensor.

Thanks guys

The only problem I see is that you have FI and not a carb. JK

I would check the wiring to the intake sensors.

IAT is intake air temp, I think. You probably already knew that.

Sorry I don't really know the issue.

Sounds like a loose connection, grounded wire, or poor ground. I find it odd (and unlikely) that two two sensors would dump at once.

Edit: Now that I've looked it up, my X1 manual shows code 16 as Battery less than 6volts, or greater than 18 Volts.
and code 15 as IAT.

Probably a charging system issue manifesting as an EFI issue.

Poke arund under the tank. Sounds like a loose connector to me.
Seems like an interesting coincidence that two things would crap out at the same exact time.

But what does all that have to do with running low on fuel?

Why do I not trust this EFI system???

I don't trust it. I was just relating the low fuel as a reference, That it might have been fuel pressure related! I used the codes off the trouble code dongle not the manual! im going to go look for the ecm cable and find out for sure what is going on here. Its weird it just all of a sudden happened.

Hey what was someone here saying about the sensors using the same input on the ecm or maybe im wrong.
I hate electrical problems anyone got an idea where to start at. I
have the manual but a starting point would be nice.

I would look at the Intake Manifold harness where it runs near the upper motor mount. MotorMountMotion here can rub/cut a wire in short order.

No offense Preybird, but I would also start here for another reason: given that you've had the intake off recently, you probably either didn't get a connector back together snugly, or got some wires running in the wrong spot (As mentioned, engine motion on the mounts requires a certain amount of slack in the wiring connected to the motor.)

First order, re-check wires you touched doing the topend, then look for abrasions or wires that are pulled tight.

No offense taken, I bet your right i had to move the main wire harness around a bit i tried to be gentle but you know how it goes, Dam wires i hate wires. It never fails over time all wires break down. I better check my zip tying out maybe i got a spot to tight where there should have been movement.(I love zip ties gets it all nice and neat) Maybe to many zip ties?
Thanks again all and jos51700

I wouldn't.

Diagnose it as a harness issue first.

If you can't diagnose it as a harness issue, it's probably not a harness issue...

What codes do you have after clearing them all, and what are those sensors showing for output data?

ok checked the codes and there are no codes now! I did a tps reset on top of that, Test ride and the problem is much better but, Still there non the less. Dam i hate wires, I might have to break down and send it to the dealer. WOW I CANT BELIEVE I JUST SAID THAT! But i dont like dealing with shorts what so ever.

If it's still running poorly, but not tossing codes, it could be fuel, could be electrical, could be AFV still needs to adapt.

What's it doing right now?

If it DID toss a code 16, it was probably either a over or under charge issue, sending ECM bonkers.

its better a little sputter at top end. no codes yet, i just erased and rode a little im going to take it home tomorrow on a 18 mile ride and hopefully it throws a code or learns the afv. I set it to 100 all the codes were in the historical and not current, i unplugged all the pig tails on the entire harness and checked and all looks ok. Battery was sitting at 12 and load tested at 11 so it appears its ok, I checked ecm plugs they look ok and doesn't smell burnt

Sweet the bike is running really good! We got a least another cold week of riding before snow comes for the season.

hey jos51700 i got to thinking....Some of the codes i got were there from when i did the top end i just realized that i never checked the codes or reset the codes after the head work was done and now come to think of it i never reset the tps either oh man Wow i am amazed.....the bike ran great after the head work no problems at all. It was real cold this day 23 degrees, And when the oil filter came off like 2 days before this happened i [had] to pressure wash the bike to get all the oil off, Now i don't pressure wash anything but i [had] to, Oil is very hard to remove in large amounts. I wonder if water got into a pigtail somewhere and caused this little glitch.
