went out today and put on a new turn signal and tried to start the bike and it fired up...then just dropped off. looked down, saw I forgot to pull out the choke so I did, started it and it fired up and when I hit the throttle it died. I tried over and over again but it wont fire up. I took out the plugs in case I flooded it, waited 5 hours and tried it again but nothing. any thoughts? its a 98 S1. Is the starter turning or are you just getting a click sound? Need a little more info. Some things to check are your wiring harness and anything you might have touched when installing your turn signals. If the starter is turning then check for spark at the plugs. Check plug wires and make sure they are seated in the coil properly. Also make sure your battery is charged and you turned the gas on. |

how long has it been since you fired it up last? kick stand switch? you replaced the turn signal, is it due to either a dump or low side? |

I only ask because I've done it (more than once)...is your fuel on? Or are you lucky like me, and did work *right* when it wants to go to reserve? (Again, been down that road many times...) If I do the choke/no choke dance, mine only likes to start if I hold the throttle at about 20% while cranking, with the choke on. "Clears it's throat", so to speak. |

thanks for all your replies! I am ashamed to admit, Rat was right (not because of him but because if me being dumb enough not to check it) I also put on a battery tender on and must have knocked the fuel line valve to off. Now its purring away just as happily as ever. Thank God for this board and thank you all for putting up with my noobness! |
