i just bought a new battery and it keeps dieing! i ran all the test in the book on checking the voltage regulator and the stator and all that stuff and the all pasted fine. so y isn't my bike charging the battery?? n i doubt its the battery cause it was doing it to my old one before i replaced it. but it needed to be replaced cause it was from 2002. am suggestions???

BATTERIES like everything else has a shelf life ...

Did you put it on a charger before installing ...

Know everyone has been told that you do not have to charge a NEW BATTERY, "BUT" that is just more BATTERY DEALER "BUELLschitte" a they are in the business to sell batteries ...

hahah yes i did actually i had it charge all night and for they last couple nites ive keep it on the charger so its been fully charged. like when the bike is running it should be at 14.1 volts and all it get is 13 but when we run all the tests it passes.

With the engine running up to 2000 RPM and a Multi-meter set to read voltage ...

The charging system should put out 13 to 15 volts ...

If the above is good, then there is a drain on the battery which you will have to find ...

A low current automotive AMP. meter between the NEG. Battery terminal and GRD. Cable helps here ...

really ok you dont think it can be the voltage reagulator or the chargeing wire is maybe shorted??

ok i figured it out so pretty much i checked if one of the pins that are in the connector from the stator are grounded and sure enough that one is witch means that all the power isnt getting to the VR to charge my battery so i think i gota get a new VR since you cant really work in it since its like solid.

Andrew what was the AC voltage reading from the stator with the bike running? If you have a shorted stator might be the lead retaining clamp in the primary or stator wire insulation break down. I also had the tie rap holding the stator/voltage regulator connector together cut through one of the leads. Here are a few pictures of the clamp and stator in the primary.
Here's what you will see when you open the primary
Here is what you will see with the clutch and rotor removed. The silver plate with the two hex heads screws has caused some problems in the past.

ok while the bike is running the stator was putting out 55 volts ac witch is correct from the manuel. but we found that one of the pins on the connector are grounded witch means the suckin power instead of letting it get to the VR so should i replace the VR or what??

Which side of the connector was grounded? The side going to the VR, or the side going to the stator?

I would replace the connectors or direct wire the stator/voltage regulator before I replaced the voltage regulator, if for no other reason then to test the voltage regulator.
