I've got oil leaking from the back side of the motor, above the starter. Looks like it might be coming from either under the jug, or maybe the pushrod seal. I'm trying to deduce which it would most likely be. I run high rpm's a lot, so I'm thinking it could be the Jug. I'll have to post pics this weekend when I get a chance. But I'm trying to figure out the most likely spot, since I can't run the motor at the moment because the exhaust is off and iso's are all bad and such, so cleaning it up, riding it to find leak = not a choice I have. | ||

I'd bet money it's a base gasket ("Under the jug"). Pushrod seals rarely give out, while base gaskets commonly do, especially if one is not into warming up a motor before beating the snot out of it. Besides, doing the base gaskets (You may as well do both) will allow you to freshen up the pushrod seals.... | ||

Clean the motor really well & let dry. Then use some spray on athlete's foot powder around the areas you think it's leaking. Go for a ride. The leak will be pretty easy to spot & your motor will be fungus free. | ||

I'm in the same boat. My cylinder is leaking and has been for about a year now. I was just going to replace the base gasket this winter but it's turned into a much larger project. All this to say I agree with the base gasket deduction. | ||

I have the same issue. Found a sending unit above the starter(cheap POS!)leaking enough to look like a base gasket, that was mine, yours may be different. | ||

You know,i attempted to fix what i thought was a leaking starter gasket on my X1 last winter. I pulled it all apart and found...just forward of the starter,where the silly rubber grommet protects the STATOR wiring coming out of the primary was the culprit. Still is seeping very little.I've seen it before on XL models. I doubt it's base gasket related.I've done them too on other bikes' | ||

ive got the same issue on my S2. this winter i think the top end is coming off for some new seals. my leak is coming right around the rear exhaust manifold, then dripping around the fins, the starter and rolling off to the ground around the cases. its particularly annoying. hence why the 1125 gets so much more play than the S2!! | ||

Pizza that kinda sounds like a rocker box gasket to me I would not pull the TE for that. | ||

for an engine thats 13 years old with 17k miles on it, and knowing the general lifespan of these engines, i think it is worthwhile to have a bit more of a thorough check and replacement of the top ends' gaskets and internals. | ||
