Ok I need help, I have now had 1 stud shear off from each cylinder. A machinist friend helped with the rear but he has moved. What is the best/least expensive way to remove the stud? Easy outs scare me as I have broken them off in the past. Any help would be greatly apreciated. |

Get the Jims tool. Don't use an easy out. Its $80 or something for the tool, but the cheapest and easiest way in the long run. Make sure you updated the front exhaust mount to the new cast upside Y shaped part. Thats probably why you are shearing studs. |

Have a 105,666.1 miles as of the last ride and have never broken a STUD,exhaust port PN 16715-83 ... Once you get the broken stud/studs(PN 16715-83) out, this is the way to PROPERLY ASSEMBLE the EXHAUST SYSTEM ... You must use GASKET,exhaust port PN 17048-98 as the 65324-83A are HARLEY-DAVIDSON "CRAP" !!! Put antie-size on exhaust threads, put every thing together finger tight(snug) ... Torque exhaust stud nuts to 6 Foot Pounds MAX. ... The first TORQUE poundage is 2 FOOT POUNDS starting with the REAR exhaust port and then move to the FRONT exhaust port ... Then again at the REAR exhaust port, do 4 FOOT POUNDS moving to the FRONT exhaust port ... Then back to the REAR exhaust port doing 6 FOOT POUNDS moving to the FRONT exhaust port ... Then tighten(OEM exhaust system), header/muffler clamp, then the rear muffler mounts ... This sequence is what has worked for me ... Have never had to remove a EXHAUST STUD, so "i" have no advise on this ... (Message edited by buellistic on October 10, 2008) |
