I was just wondering how many other female S2 owners/riders are in this group? I might be able to get a little more advice from other Buell Babes who understand our physical limitations when it comes to this bike. |

LOL what the heck Court? I followed the link and milk came out of my nose with laughter (okay, not really, but it would have had I been drinking milk). I thought only us young guns thought random irrelavence was comedy. |

Well - the 'Queen of Pies' is no longer an S2 owner or rider. She sold it a few years ago. Penny swiped my RoadKing one day and hasn't given it back yet. The S2T became forlornly neglected and sat in the garage, quietly munching on payment and insurance dollars. The S2T, wonderful as it is, is a TALL bike and adds a measure of difficulty to riders of shorter stature. Backing it up in a parking lot is a chore. I lowered it for her, which was of marginal assistance. Gray duct tape, which matches the 96 S2T color perfectly, is a poor substitute for expensive fiberglass repair and paint. Advice: Always park it in a manner so that you can simply ride it forward when you leave!. Practice controlled braking from low speeds to fully train your right hand to not "panic test" how effective that front brake really is. Make friends with someone with a tig welder that can fix the front fairing 'spider' (subframe) regularly. Court has some stories about Penny, the Love Ride in So Cal, Lorenzo Lamas being dissed for a photo op with Mr. Buell, remind him to tell you. I'm thinking he posted her website 'cause he's angling for another pecan pie. As they don't ship well, maybe he'd better stop in and personally pick it up, next time he's in the neighborhood. Well, that wasn't very encouraging. What did you do to lower the bike? I love this bike because it is unique but I am still intimidated by it. I was hoping that there might be another woman out there who could give a little advice on how to make it a little more manageable for me. I will take your advice to heart and anyone else's as my safety depends on it. |

Big_coch, a member here, can build you a lowering shock mount for your bike. The would help with the lowering situation. |

We used a lowering kit from American Sport Bike for the rear, and raised the fork tubes in the clamps for the front, dropped the bike about an inch, and got a Corbin seat which MAY have lowered the seating a bit. The Corbin has a flatter seating area for rider. You can see a shot of the Corbin on my 'S2'd' RS on my profile. Biggest factor in her safely riding that bike (and any bike, for that matter!) was CA Superbike School classes with Keith Code. She still dropped the bike occasionally, but was able to do so with much more style and finesse. Also - it wasn't just the S2T - she'll dump the Road King over on it's crash bars every now and then, too! AL |

Do NOT let that gal get injured . . . my big gut is depending on her to be healthy and baking! The lowering kit is a good thing for the S2. Use judicially and listen close to those who have had experience using it. |

Well, I contacted American Sport Bike about the kit, and here was their response. "There is no longer a lowering kit available for it, per se. The original lowering kits were replacement front shock eye brackets for them, but the company that made them no longer does. It only lowered the rear, the front would be lowered by raising the forks in the triple trees. But this isn't a perfect solution, because it doesn't limit the travel on either end. I'm not aware of any kits that addressed snubbing that travel, however. The rear solution is still doable, but not cheaply. The Penske rear shock comes with an adjustable ride height features, so it is the only commercial solution for lowering the rear at this time. Kimberly - when you lower the back of the bike by moving the shock rearward (by using a different mounting bracket) you've moved the back wheel closer to the underside of the rear part of the bike. The shock still allows the same amount of travel of the swingarm, so on big bumps and with a full size load (2 up or with some lardass such as myself or Canfield as riders) the tire can now rub or hit something and cause any number of problems. So you should do something to prevent that from occurring. It's probably not an issue if the bike is ridden solo with a lighter person aboard. Penny never caused the tire to contact subframe or any thing - she is 5' 6 and well less than 150# with all gear on. |
