Hi Dudes,
My 01 S3 has 16,000 is running great! I have the stock airbox, stock muffler, and race ecm.
Recently, when I run it hard, its spewing enough oil out the rear breather to coat the tire fairly well. Here is a pic of the tube. Is this a crank-case pressure tube? Or is it the tranny case breather? Any suggestions as to what it going on would be appreciated.

Cheers, Patrice.

if oil level in primary is too high, you have a bad crank seal

Hard to tell from the pic, but if that's the starter on the right...it's your primary/transmission breather. Put the bike on the sidestand and remove the four-bolt round derby cover on the left side, may have to rubiks-cube it out from behind the shifter. Fluid should be just below the bottom of that opening; anything more is too much. If you drain it and it comes back up, check your engine oil - pressurized engine oil is coming past the crank seal and filling the primary up.

Thanks very much. When I check for excess oil in the primary, do I have the bike in a level position?
I will remove the derby cover and let it drain out. Then check the motor oil level and add some if needed.
Ride for a bit, and make sure the primary did not gain oil. So, to replace crank seals, I'll have to pull the primary apart?
Cheers, Patrice.

with bike upright, any level above the outer clutch diaphragm spring edge is overfill. if it comes out of the derby cover, it is WAY OVERFILLED
