I've been searching and haven't found an answer. I just ordered a brand new (9/15/08 date code) Buell Race ECM for my 2002 X1... but theres a problem... there's a connector on the new one that isn't on the my stock one! WHAT DO I DO??? I ordered one of these a few years back and it had the same deal. The dealer told me that it was a simple ground and they had to fab a wire to ground it, i was skeptical and said no but it looks like this is how they come now... SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! |

I just got off the phone with my dealer and they said it needs to be sent back, that if it has that extra male prong in between the two main connectors that its an ECM for an XB bike not an old tuber... does ANYONE have expirience with this??? |

That is for an XB 12 --that wire is for the exhaust valve in muffler IIRC. It is on XB 9's just not used. |

Due to the different way the old FI and new XB bikes are programed, there is no way I can run this... right? (Message edited by texastechx1 on September 25, 2008) |

Aren't the new Race ECM's for Tubers based on the XB ECM's? If so, it is what is inside that counts and you should be all set! I'm sure someone who has used the "new" Race ECM will chime in shortly - so hang in there! |

it's right, that's the new race ecm for the tubers! they use the same hardware for the xb's as they use for the tubers, all that is is a terminal for the exhaust valve that you don't have, don't ground it! disregard it! you will need a tps reset however! if you want more info try a search here on badweb for "ecm terminal" or "ecm third terminal" you'll find plenty of confirmation on this fact! i would'nt steer you wrong. I am curious about this too. To tell you the truth, I didn't think you could still even get the race ECMs anymore! |

Nate: As I have it the new ecm works better because of the updated tech in the chipset. PK the newer ECMs' are made with the XB component set that has been adapted to tuber use. |

I have been running the "new" race ecm for over a year, it's great. Was concerned about the extra terminal and was told by the dealer the same as Oldog's reply. |

Why is the TPS reset a part of the new install? I just updated my old ECM and all seems well but I do have the ECM Spy software so I could do the reset if I need to. I actually think my plugs look a tad bit lean on the bike. They also looked lean to me before the re-program of the ECM so I am not sure how to finally get those plugs to look a nice golden brown. |

a TPS reset synchronizes the throttle blade position within the ECM. It actually does nothing to the TPS itself, instead it resets the ECM to read zero % open at that TPS reading. Since it is a new ECM, it is not synched with your throttle. |

I've been using the ECMspy on mine to do the TPS reset, and so far ECMspy works. And, for the fun of it, I checked out my maps... so that works too! |
