why 0.030? Does closing the gap (shortening the path of travel) hold any advantages?

I know its basic mechanics...sorry. Im a dullard sometimes.

Torquemonster:

IMHO, rather than buy the BIG DOLLAR racing coil, spark plug/plugs, and spark plug wire/wires, "i" just use the OEM stuff that came on the bike adjusting the plug/plugs to 0.030 ...

It works for me ...

+1. Really no need for them unless you have serious ignition mods. But if you want to try them, stock gap is the way to go.

The shorter the gap the stronger the spark. I always run between 25 and 30...

Thanks fellas.
I bought the plugs when I bought the race kit with intentions to buy a different ignition as well, but I never got around to it.

I installed the plugs for shits and giggles (insomnia), knowing damn well I wouldnt really notice any big diff.

The bike seemed a little more peppy when I took her out, but Im sure it was only because the plugs are fresh and the old ones arent.

Ive ridden her a half dozen times since I put the plugs in and yesterday, for the first time ever, I heard a little bit of pinging when initiating 1st gear. It wasnt that hot out, I hadnt been running her very hard, and I ALWAYS run premium fuel.
The gap is still between 0.038 & 39. Might that have something to do with it?

Again...sorry for the lame question. Im almost embarrassed to ask it, but its better than not knowing.
