I put d&d exhaust on and I'm gana put a force winder intake on. What is the best option for the carb? Just get the jet kit for the stock one or upgrade to a mikuni? Any thoughts and what kind of mikuni and jets or just bring it in and let the shop put the carb on and re- jet it. I'm not really satisfied with the stock carb. Any thoughts I'd appreciate it, thanks. |

well you definatly do not want to leave the carb alone because you will be running too lean. Switching to a mikuni would definatly be the best option but that depends on your budget. |

I also had the same dilemma when doing the upgrades on my M2; go with the Yost Power Tube and/or Thunderslide kit, or go with the Mikuni? I chose the Mikuni. Boy, am I glad I did!! 5 times the carb for the same price as the mods. |

If you get a 42MM and do not Up GRADE to a 45MM carb. you will have waisted some of your money !!! "SO", it will work 10 times better !!! |

I want to change the carb, I hate the Harley hiccups. I run Kehin on my dirt bikes but I've heard alot of good reviews on th Mikuni. Any body ever try a kehin? |

If you get the OEM H-D Keihin CV Carb. set up correctly it will not HICCUP !!! |

What Buellistic said. Unless you did additional motor work (head, exhaust, cams, etc) You won't get any additional performance out of a Mikuni. You will get some driveability gains but not performance. From a $$ standpoint, you are better off doing a good tune on the stock CV. There's some dyno pulls around here somewhere that show all of the above. Only minor tweeks are needed. 190 main or so, 45 pilot, uncork the low speed screw and set it to about 2 1/2 out to start. You may also want to shim the needle about .050" to start too (this helps low to mid throttle roll on's helps kill pinging). A couple of pulls on a dyno with a sniffer will tell you if you are close. Way cheaper than a 42 or 45 Mikuni. |

I have switch to the HSRs and like the throttle response and the tun-ability. They may not make more power but what they contribute to the engine characteristics has justified it for me. Joe |

A properly tuned and jetted CV40 will give you more HP than just swapping to a Mikuni for "drivability". You can do the mods in a few hours for under $30.00 including parts, drill bit and cleaner and gaskets. I had my carb done for $120, vs (Mukuni $359.00) jetted, vaccuum drilled out, adjustments knob, brass fuel connector, accelerator pump and more. It was basically blueprinted. Ran great. Polished, Allen Screws installed. NO 4000 RPM FLAT SPOT, NO HICCUPPING!

I don't believe anyone was arguing the fact that the HSR doesn't really produce any more viable dyno HP; just the ease of tuning and the seat-of-the-pants response was worth it to me! (I believe Aaron described it as a direct connection between the wrist and the rear tire in the KV.) I was never able to ditch the Keihin Cough despite mild tuning and swapping carbs with a Thunderslide Keihin, and like Joe, I feel it was money well spent. To each his own, though! |

I found a N.O.S. system for my bike that I am really thinking about. I will do cams and a 48mm carb. Living in wisconsin the snow sucks but I can rip my bike apart while the snow is flying and not be in a rush to put it back together. |

His name is Wally. He is from Sunbury, PA. I sent him my carb with all my info. ALL engine mods, he even jets it so it should be close, if not right on. I paid him PAYPAL when he sent me an E-mail saying it was done, I had it back 1 week later total from the time I sent it. I recommend him no questions about it. cvrebuild@hotmail.com |
