We??? Don't be calling me a slow learner! LOL I've only owned a tuber for a month! Really, thanks to the years of collective knowledge and oh so many test miles done by the community here, I'm way ahead of the curve on having another great Buell ownership experience. |

Wow...this seems as if it actually does work! I may see about making some ( I don't have access to a shop, but friends do). Maybe this could be a sellable item? (Message edited by brinnutz on October 10, 2008) |

DIY transfer punch for rear tie bar bolt location. Cut head off 3/8" bolt, chucked it up in a portable drill and went to town at the bench grinder.
Transfer punch installed ready to make an accurate hole location transffer to the Stenzel Brace.
Brace sitting on transfer punch ready for a hit with the hammer. Hit it then the hole center is tranfered to the brace. Drill a 3/8" hole at the now center punched location. I would pilot drill with a 3/16" or 1/8" drill first for accuracy of the center location. The larger drill may walk even with the center punch.
My first brace I only had 1/4" x 2 material so I used some washers to act as the counterbore. It worked okay, but I did buy some 3/8" x 2 material and remade the brace with the counterbore. The second brace does not create any additional vibration. The first one did, but I'm sure it was because there was some tension on the rear mounting bolt when I installed it. I missed drilling that hole dead nuts. I should have pilot drilled it! ( I know better!!!)
Drawing of the finished brace for a DIY version.

Thanks Butch! Same to you!! I guess we'll know if this works in what 50,000 miles or so. LOL Here's one more photo of the front of the install with the washers. I think that's a real viable option for someone that doesn't access to a mill or drill press for making the 1" counter bore. I'm lucky and my brother owns a custom fabrication business and I get to use the shop for my projects.

Loren:50 degrees here today.Went with son to Pembroke NY.to get his new Triumph 1050 sport tourer on my S3(140 miles round trip) .Up to 130 mph at times with new re lief bar after 3200 rpms very smooth.I will make new bares out of 3/8sX2X12" alum stock this time.1 1/2 stock is all I could get at the time.I do have some vibes at lower rpms, but think it from not using 2" wide stock at iso end.Butch |
