Not sure if anyone recognizes my user name but ive been having a lot of bike problems lately. Mostly fuel issues so i put in a new fuel line and blah blah blah. Anyways, i get on today to go ride to a friends house and on the way back (on the freeway of course) the bike starts acting all weird like stumbling and stuff. I look at my odometer and i had only gone 97 miles on a full tank. I got it started again and got off the freeway and then it was dead in the water. Got it home after a lot pushing and checked the fuel tank for kicks. Bone dry. Off of 97 miles. Any ideas for such horrible mileage? Ive cleaned the air filter very recently. And i RARELY ever even take the bike above 4K rpms. I also follow the repair manuals suggestion for enricher nob use. Thankfully ill be out of town this weekend to get my mind off this and hopefully some ideas will pop into my head. Any of yours will be appreciated though. Thanks |

im not sure how to help but maybe try cleaning your carb. because that is really horrible gas miles |

Man you gotta have a leak, or someone is stealing your gas. Do you park it inside or outside? |

00, do you get a gas smell at all???? I would check the carb like others have suggested. Get a rebuild kit and replace the gaskets (easy job). With the bike running check the bottom of the carb to see if gas is leaking. I have had this happen before and once the accelerator pump gasket was bad causing a slight leak at first then a really good leak a little later and the other time was a stuck float bowl. Check your plugs as well... Let us know what you find. Frank |

Frank, I had the same accelerator pump leak on my S2. You might want to check your oil and see if it smells like gas. If your float is too high, it could be leaking into your intake and making it's way into the sump. Probably not a problem while it's running but parked is a different issue. Also, make sure the carb slide is working properly. Brad |

I recently looked at a 2000 M2 in Detroit. It was in pretty rough shape. When I tried to start it, gas was leaking out of the clutch cable by the lever!!! I removed the clutch cover and watched about 2 gallons of gas pouring out. The engine was filled up. It had sat for one year and supposedly ran fine when parked the last time. Could this also be caused by a malfunctioning carb? It was shocking... |

Cornel, I do not see how a carb could do that. Sounds like someone opened the primary drive chain inspection cover and poured gas in it! Frank |

Hi Frank, had I opened that cover I would have still gotten half a gallon of gas I think. The guy had plugged up the crankcase vent because gas was shooting out there, when he started it. So it came out of the clutch cable.... I have never seen anything like that! Eric (your S2Ts former owner, right!) and I were shocked and discussed what could have gone wrong... ??? Also we wondered whether an engine like that was trash because of the long time gas was sitting on oil seals , bearings.... A wonder it turned over and actually fired up! Sad story. |

Sounds like the S2 had a MAJOR crank seal problem. If enough gas runs into the motor, it will get into the crankcase and if the seal is bad enough, it can get past a bad seal. Remember how far the S2's lean to the kickstand side. At that angle, it's a pretty straight shot into the cylinders if the carb needle and seat are bad. Brad |

check the carb boots, if u have an aftermarket intake there is a support bracket that goes on the carb and if thats not there it will cause leakage. Just my two cents |

With Bluzum's theory, make an easy check. Simply turn off the petcock between rides to possativly identify if the fuel is infact leaking or not and getting to the crankcase past the rings etc. or leaking to the floor. I'm sure you'v looked for evidence all around the carb area and the floor, but by process of elimination, and with the petcock you can check one more possable source for sure, provided the petcock is sound. Typically the petcock never gets used, I never shut mine off and mine never seems to leak. By the way if I go long distance, continous traveling, I can get just at 60 miles per gallon of premium "SHELL" here in North Carolina. That consists of soft acceleration from the stop sighs or lights and even steady 55 miles per hour riding, or I can get about mebe 40 doing 80 and above. Anyway its 150 miles verses 95-100 miles per tank. |

Im gonna start with a carb rebuild kit to see if that does the trick. I have all the overflows running all together into a gerber baby bottle (dont be jealous haha) and it doesnt fill up. Also ive never seen it leak gas on the floor. so anyways ill let you know what happens after the carb kit. |

Opened up the carb and first of all the float was way out of adjustment so it was probably just dumping fuel in. Also the idle mixture jet was bent so im gonna replace that, adjust the float and hopefully thatll do the trick |

Yeh its getting a lot better mileage now. Havent ridden a full tank yet but normally by now itd be empty but its still about half full or so.. |
