I like Mother's if I've been keeping up, Simichrome if it's been awhile since I've polished. I tried the Mothers polishing ball recently. Bought the big one, should have bought the small one. It did a nice job on some PMs that were left unattended and outdoors, though. I can at least tell that they're worth saving! |

I use Fast-Orange hand pumice to polish impurities out or "clean" the aluminum, then Mother's to polish it out. I find that the fast orange is the secret to having an awesome finished product. |

what would work good on the 90 degree elbow between the header and the muffler can? Is that elbow removeable? If so, I want to get it jet hot coated black. If that is not an option, I will just polish it up! |

You could polish it up on the stock can, it's not made to have the elbow come off though so you'd have to get the whole muffler coated. |

If the whole dang thing got coated, Do I need to take the end caps off and stuff? And how do you get the finish on the elbow good where it enters the can, because the can will slide about two inches back and forth on the pipe? |

Use some masking tape to separate what you want to polish from what you don't. Double layer it if you are using aggressive grit to remove machining lines or anything like that. I hope you gave it a good inspection while you were changing your primary fluid. Much easier to polish off the bike too. |

I checked it out pretty good, I'm pretty sure my packing is non-existent as of now. I have no cracks or stressed areas to note, and my exhaust system is pretty free standing when I bolt it back down. I have been quite paranoid about breaking a head stud! |

I'm contemplating polishing the headers on my S1. Anybody who has done this; what is the best way to remove the texture in the metal to make them smoother before polishing? Thanks, J |

http://www.tarheelparts.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce .cgi?product=BuffingKits&cart_id=9987997.331 I got the #7019 1/3 HP buffer and a buffing wheel kit when I rebuilt my S1. It made polishing triple trees and rockers etc a breeze. Lots of shiny parts on my bike and not a piece of chrome. I just got done polishing a Stainless exhaust for my car before install. Hit the Easy Button. |
