One of these?
I'm doing some major renovation this winter and have always like the looks of these and with the problems our tuber key cylinders have with wiring I thought about putting in one of these. Has anyone ever used one? I'm thinking of putting a three way toggle under the seat (for off, park and ign.) and then one of these on the starter. I'd like some input on the pros and cons and if anyone has ever done it, not only on a Buell but anything else. I'd like to put a clock in the stock ign. location. Let me know. Thanks. |

That is just a starter button, you will still need a way to turn on your bike, IE the switch and a run/kill switch. |

Buy a good one, not some Custom Chrome trash, or they'll let water into your solenoid. Not a good scene. |

You're right George, right on the starter itself. The wires going into the back of my cylinder are already brown and crispy and they get HOT (ask me how I know) very HOT. Think of it this way, put in a toggle where the cylinder is, a three way job, it'll work just like the key right? Off, park, ignition? Now move that toggle to somewhere of your choice off the dash. It'll work won't it? At least in my feeble brain it will. Spidy I plan on leaving the kill switch in the loop because I think it will be a lot easier to kill it there than to reach down and toggle it off. I was just looking to see if anyone had ever used one and how dependable they were. Like Grandpa says, it may not be enough salt for a nickel. I'm still trying to find one installed to give yous a better idea. I saw a Buell engine on the bay last week with one installed but didn't save a pic. |

Look at the chopper crowd. They clean up the RH switches by going to manual solenoid (as shown), and killing the motor with the key switch.

I ran something similar when my ignition switch failed on me. And guess what -- it's failing again so everyone should have one of these in their tool boxes by now so they'll be prepared when it happens to them! I put a rocker switch in the hole where the ignition goes on and wired it as "ignition on or off" and then I ran another push button switch hidden underneath the dash as a "theft prevention" device that would allow the rocker switch to be energized. I continued to use the starter button in the original location. It would be unwise to but the starter button elsewhere because if you accidently stalled the engine or hit the "kill" switch you want to quickly be able to pull in the clutch and turn the engine back over without taking your hands off the bars... |

Check out the M-Lock from http://www.motogadget.com. I'm considering doing this when I install their mini gauge on my bike this winter, and I've been stumped as to where to mount the ignition switch. The M-Lock seems to solve that problem for me. |
