Has anybody anodized their upper fork tubes? I talked to a local shop, and they think there is a type of nickel coating on them. They want to chemically strip the inner, and outer tube, which kind of worrries me. They want to do the strip, for the anodizing to work better, any ideas, or suggestions?

Dean, it appears that none of us know, you could try posting this question in the KV and see if you get better results.

you don't want them to do anything to the inside of the tubes. have them sand the outside(or do it yourself) and tape off the inside and just anodize the outside of the tube. it actually adds some small amount of thickness (.002-.004"). what color?

It could probably be done, but you'd have to make "O" ring sealed plugs for the top and bottom of your slider tube to keep the chemicals from plating the inside, the plugs would have to be retained by some means, threaded on the top, circlipped on the bottom because their is some heat involved in the tanks. Not enough to distort the tubes, but there would be a pressure build up inside the tube and an unrestrained "O" ring plug would most likely blow out when in the tank. Also keep in mind any finish or scratches on the plate will show in the anodize. A bead blasted part will come out with a flat or matte finish, a polished part will come out with a nice shiny finish

Is this a regular plating company? Have they done bike parts before?

WHY do they want to strip the INSIDE.

BUT, Everything Lang said in that post is spot on.

Any good machine shop can make some plugs to protect the inside....

Thanks for the replies, for now I am just going to polish the tubes. I have contacted some suspension shops about anodizing since.

Biks1, I was talking to the guys at POR15 here in Jersey and they showed me their aluminum rim paint that looks just like an anodized finish. You can do your fork for less than $50 bucks. Ask anyone who has used POR15 products, their $hit is tuff as nails! Just thought I would let ya know. PS they have a few colors Blue, Red, ect...

I would like to add one more comment. If you use POR15s products, make sure you follow ALL directions! If they say use their primer-use their primer! ASK ME HOW I KNOW
