I just got a "brand new in the box" set of Zen rails for my X1. It didn't have the instructions to mount the rails to the bike. Does anyone have a copy of the instructions or a picture of an X1 with the rails mounted?

I've never seen a picture of them on a buell, but as I understand the zenrail system, they mount on the passenger peg brackets, of all places.

If you ever manage to figure it out, post a picture, I've been wanting to see these in action for years.

The ZEN RAILS ROCK. If you sling on the Buell X1 bags with the zenrails underneath they keep your bags " solid " as in not blowing around when empty and just not prone to shifting. The Buell bags for me with out the rails was just a mess. Ill try and take a pic monday.. my battery is dead.

Might be the only pics on the net too. They were non existent when i looked around for them. bbl

Are we talking about like saddle bags for an X1?

I've loved the idea but there seems to be no visible means of support. If this Zen rail thing cures that, I'm all ears!

Send info!

Yes we are...and yes there is NO support for them without these..a PITA. I have the complete set with amber turn signal bulbs that go in the ends but didnt like them. Also hardware kit includes bolts with barrels that will hold bungie cord hooks....again I didnt like. There were flat plates you could bolt in the holes to give your bags a 5 x7 inch panel to rest against. Good freaking luck finding those. Not needed though. You could just make one out of some lexan though. I might someday.

Take your rear support loose and you can sneak the rails in. You will drill a hole in the rear frame for one of the support bolts. Use a bolt and lock nut with lock washer unless you want to do again on the road. Its hilarious to me tht the people that made these included 2 self tapping bolts as if that was OK...WTF? Thats it your done.

Mike, Thanks...the last pic helped. Seems like the hardest part is drilling the hole in the tail piece.

Thanks, I have seen them advertised, the plates make sense, I too think that knobs sticking out would not be good though

I have wondered what they look like mounted again thanks for posting that pic.

No problem although I do recommend a radar detector before adding this necessity

Extremely cool addition to the bike - where can you get a set?

Mike, if you had to put a time on taking those rails on and off... would you say 5 minutes tops?

AND, do you think they would support a low profile hard bag???

Just wondering, as that gave me one helluva idea for all this aluminum tubing I have here....

Hey Mike do you think that those would support hard bags?

I do recommend a radar detector before adding this necessity

some Decades ago I had a detector on my scoot
I was passing the GA Ten border when the GSP rolled up behind me. I was doing 70 in a 55 I er WE got a tickets. I was talking to my buddy on a CB at the time ( he was on a G-wing ) I had built an in helmet set, With the radio in the tank bag. The detector never went off untill he was right behind me and switched on the radar to "rattle me" not funny then It produces a grin now, the Eyeball MkI is my speed trap detector,
It works most of the time }

Old Mil,
You can get them thru dave@canyonchasers.net. They haven't been available since about 2003. After writing a favorable review of them on his website (canyonchasers.net) the original maker got in touch with him to sell his remaining stock thru Dave. The only Buell they made them for was the X1. They did make them for other sport bikes, there is a list at canyonchasers.net. The X1 Zenrails were $175 including shipping.

Yeah i mean 10 minutes I guess. It just ataches to the lower rear support over the frame tab so that bolt will be easy.

The other one you see that you have to drill for, i guess thats as hard as you hardcored it on. Yeah easy on and off Id say. I leave em on.

The rails are solid as hell I dont see why they would not support the modern hard bags. Really they are nicely made and look and feel quality, plus they are stainless.

Thanks, that will make a nice addition.

I like my Uly, but this will be a nice alternative for short throw a t-shirt and boxers in the bag for an overnight option.

Just got a set (new) from eBay for $75 plus $15 shipping. They have more. Also got the marker lights from eBay also for $30 plus $12 shipping. Deep discount from what they orig. cost. They'll help secure my Cortech soft bags. May even work to secure XBS hard bags to the bike if I go that route.
