Has anyone done this on their '99-02 S3? |

As long as you have the correct shock mount, it shouldn't be a problem. An S2 came stock with a 'long' shock (about 16.5"). You'll need the appropriate front mount for it, the one that's straight and not banana shaped. |

Thank you! I have both mounts, and thought that the short mount would work. |

I have both mounts too... just in case. I'm using the short one now. |

I am leaving on a long trip in a week, and the shock on my S3 is shot, so my plan now is to pull the shock off my S2 and use it on the S3 for the trip, and find a replacement when I get back. Shane |

My S2 rear shock is more or less a pogo stick right now. When I asked 'someone in the know' what my options were when I had difficulty finding a S2 rear shock I was told that I should look for a S3 shock. So I would expect that swapping the 2 the other way would be fine. Still haven't found a rear shock for my S2, and I'd like to go for the later model shorter shock. 1313 |

Either will work as the last gen recall shock was a short one for everything, had one on my S-2 before the Penske. It puked its guts after about a year, first recall one lasted about 5 months before leaking. |

The original long shock on my 2000 M2 only lasted about 15,000 miles;the goodwilled (for $100) short shock lasted for about 15,000 miles, but it also worked much better than the original 16.5" Showa. That original M2 SRP shock (without a reservoir) was a miserable unit so it doesn't take much to be an improvement. If anyone really wants to explore the handling limits of their tube framer, though, those old Showas need to go. |
