Hello- Just picked up this bike yesterday to go alongside my '99 S3T This one is 1995 S2. I am the fourth owner, the bike was originally purchased in Chicago, and I got it from a guy in Seattle. I rode it home yesterday and it is nice. Very tight and sorted. The first owner, at 875 miles, had Redline in Skokie hop it up a bit in 1998. Thunderstorm heads, Screaming Eagle cams, 10-1 pistons, Dyna programmable ignition, Vance&Hines exhaust. Lots of power, not quite the mileage as on my S3, but I think I can pull 40 or so mpg if I don't hotrod (right...). It also has some electronics that the po didn't know how to use and so could not explain it to me. There is an LED shift light on the dash, and under the tank are 4 switches that are connected to the Dyna. Also, on the clutch perch is a micro switch and a contact on the clutch handle. Anyone have any experience with a setup like that? The switches are labled and I will decipher them as I can and post a picture. I also am picking up a set of S3 bags and brackets from a fellow badwebber and plan to adapt that to the S2, as well as try the touring bars and the peg lowering kit, if and when I can find those items. August 10 I am moving my daughter to Madison WI, and will be taking along the S3 to ride back to WA. Thought about the S2 for that, but the S3 is all setup for touring and gets 45mpg at most any speed. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and show off my new bike. Shane

Redline in Skokie? That the same fella that does the Kaw 900/1000 bikes? Nice bike by the way. The S2 is one of the best looking bikes ever. Ever. |

I have the paperwork on the conversion and it was Redline Cycle Service, Inc. in Skokie, Illinois. Are you familiar with them? Shane |

Sweet ride Shane! I do like that yellow jacket pearl; shows up better in traffic than one might expect. |

that clutch switch might be connected to a two step rev limiter, going by the fact that it has a shift light and other dyna goodies, sounds like it spent some time on the 1/4 mile |

There is a an adjustable two stage rev limiter under the left side panel. How does that work? Shane |

its a launch limiter, when its activated, and you have the clutch pulled in, you can pull the throttle to wide open, but the motor will only rev to a set rpm. as soon as the clutch is dropped the rev limiter shuts off. this is handy because your already at full throttle when you launch, but you dont have to launch at full throttle (make sense??) used on pretty much all gas drag bikes, got one on mine and love it. |

So how does the soft and hard limit relate to full throttle? Right now the soft is at 4000 rpm and the hard is at 7000 rpm. |

the hard limit is just a top end rev limiter, just like stock, to prevent over rev. with the soft or "low" limit, its purely for launching the bike at the track. with out it, you would sit on the line, hold your hand had certain rpm, than take off going to WFO. with this, your hand is already at wfo, but the motor is not. it purely controls the launch rpm of the motor |

Very nice....And I'm very jealous. I've got a '99 S3T myself, and would like to add an S2 to the garage. |

I always wanted an S2 and fell into the S3 for touring, no regrets, but the S2 is just so drop dead gorgeous I kept on wanting one. This was the first one that I saw at the time I could afford it and was local to me. Once I get it set up for touring I will either sell the S3, or if my wife wants it we will sell her '94 Sportster. I gave that one to her when I got the S3, and I had run up 85k on it, now she just rolled over 100k. So she likes the sporty, but it would be good for her to have more power and long distance comfort. The S3 comes out on top, all except for the seat. Thats because the sporty has a Russell Daylong saddle on it that you can do 1000 mile days on and never have numb buns. (Of course you can't feel your fingers...). Shane |
