Hey everyone, I finally got my x1 back up and running (cracked headers, rear brake line, exhaust mounts) but now I have another problem. My brake light isn't working. The taillight works and the bulb is fine, but it doesn't respond to braking. Anyone know where to start? -Chuck W |

jump the wire connections at the switch. if the bulb lights, it is the switch. if it doesn't, it is the wires. from there, new switch or tracing power wire feed. if it is the switch, an auto replacement is less than half of the buell part price. i have a part# if you need. i have a 99 m2. hopefully, the brakelight setup is the same. |

I'll take that part # Fasted. Is it front or back? I need a front switch. Thanks in advance. Michael |

It is both the front and rear brake. Neither of them cause the light to come on, so I doubt it's a switch unless both went bad? I'll have to try bypassing one of them and see |

My 01 X-1 SM shows both stop light switches being fed by an O/W wire from the ACC fuse at the fuse box. If the bulbs are good, might want to start there. Hope this helps.... Dave |

PS- If the fuse is good, get a multimeter and confirm 12v to the hot side of the fuse socket. If the fuse is blown, check for a short to ground with the ign switch off. Maybe a wire got pinched/disconnected? |

The front brake light signal runs to the rear brake light switch as a red/yellow wire. Power comes from the orange/white wire from the accessories fuse. The most common problem I had was the tail light socket pins not making positive contact with the bulb or blow bulb. This problem can only be from the red/yellow wire running to the tail lamp assembly, something in the lamp assembly or no power to the circuit. This is from the S1 manual, would be surprised if this circuit varies on your X1. Good luck Joe |
