So, the previous owner told me that my 97 cyclone had a works rear shock. Its fully adjustable, but recently it started squeeking on rebound. Does it need a rebuild? Any ideas? Thanks Matt |

well thats debatable, my shock just went out on my m2 and it started to squeak. turned out that it wasnt the shock squeaking, but the kickstand rubbing agenst the swingarm. jump up and down on it with the stand down and see if it still squeaks. if so its your shock if not its your kickstand which can be fixed with a piece of rubber. |

Mine squeaked too! Spray silicone or WD-40 on the spring itself -- especially where the coils contact each other. The squeak occurs when the coils rub against each other. Next time I'm getting a Penske; I'm disappointed with the quality of Works shock. |

Could you elaborate on that? I had a choice between a Penske or a Works and decided to take the plunge on the Penske (which has been utterly magnificent) but I've always had very good luck with Works shocks before. Outwardly, the quality of the Penske is top notch. It's one of the few things I've ever had in my life that was the best money could buy... in my not so humble opinion. |

Works shock performance is okay -- except that there's no adjustment for ride height or fast compression settings like you have on the Penske. The quality issues with Works are: Braided remote oil line is not covered in plastic so it will grind on your aluminum unless you take precautionary steps. The adjustments for compression and rebound take two different kinds of tools. The preload adjuster is chrome plated yet requires friction to be generated with a special tool to turn the adjuster -- the chrome causes the tool to slip off. There is no teflon coating on the spring to prevent "spring squeak". There are parts on the shock that should have been made of aluminum to reduce the weight. Works is better than the factory shock, but for the value I think Penske is a better deal. |
