Does anyone know if the race ignition module from a 98 will work on a 02? I know a lot of things changed in 00 but not sure if it would still work. I dont want to find out the hard way. |

No, it won't work. The modules and connectors are different. |

Search E-bay and American Sport bike website. 2000 and below are harder to get. Just scored one. for a 2000 M2. NOS $85 |

You're welcome. Click the link above to go to the Buell parts page for that item. Here it is again in its full URL glory... http://www.buell.com/en_us/gear/accessories/Produc t.asp?Menu_ID=2&ProductLineID=6&CategoryID=1&Produ ctID=3177 |

Hi Blake, the Buell site refers to this as an X1/S3 part. This will work for the M2? There are no issues between FI and Carb? Just want to be sure. Why does Buell differentiate between the models? |

Oh geez! No, that's the wrong part. Sorry about that. No page on Buell.com for the M2 race ignition module. |

It was my understanding that the M2 could use any of the race ignition modules? I bought a M2 specific unit a few years ago but was told by the dealer any of them would work as long as the plug was compatible. |

That part number is 91438-99Y according to this source. Still available, too... in England. http://www.robinsonsfoundry.co.uk/shop/index.php/p roduct/buell/buellpartsclearance/index.html I wouldn't get one unless I got a screaming deal on one. The race kit ignition didn't make much of difference on my near stock M2. |

my race ignition says 32680-96y on it Im not sure if it made a difference at all or not, i just like having a spare stock sitting arround if it ever craps out. |

DJkaplan. That part on that site shows up to 00 m2s, would this be the same for 01 & 02? |

NO! Sorry, I lost track of what year your bike is. |

Here's the deal... the race ignition doesn't do much according to this dyno comparison on a near stock bike... http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/10398.html?1059591514 The only reason I have one is because it came with the factory race kit. The ignition was an easy R&R so I did that first. The performance difference I felt in the seat of my pants pretty much matches what the dyno comparison reveals. Like Guell says... it's nice having a spare ignition laying around but I think I'll wind up replacing the race ignition with a programmable one in the future. |

I plan on doing the same when i eventually dig into the engine for more power. Right now it seems to be fine for me. Other than having a spare arround, i cant see the point in burning the money on it like i did. I was a noob at the time. |

I'm not sure, but I think Aaron Wilson's red M2 in the link I posted is the same one that went 150mph at Bonneville a few years ago. The bike was geared, of course, but I think it was fairly streetable. It's at the bottom of this link. http://www.nrhsperformance.com/racing.shtml I bet that bike could hit 160 on pavement. |

The biggest difference I noticed on my '02 M2 going to the late model race module, engine stock with just 2 1/2" muffled exhaust with insert, K&N air cleaner and jetted properly was that it continued to pull strong right to the rev. limiter (somewhere just shy of 7000 rpm's). With the stock module it kinda flattened out about 5500 rpm's. With my jetting, equipped as I stated, I can grab a handful at 2500 and pull real strong all the way through to redline without a dip anywhere. |

But is that more of a result of proper jetting or the race module? |

Jeff(Kickboxin), welcome to my old stomping grounds, Chicago. I think both; the strong pull all the way through is good jetting but the flattening out after 5500 is my understanding of what is programmed in the stock module from Buell engineers along with a slightly better advance rate through the mid-range. |
