I have a 97 S3 which has about 17k on it. I just recently rebuilt the top end, but everything else in the motor is original age as far as I can tell. (I am the second owner.) I would like to switch to synthetic oil. Is there anything I should be careful of? Anything I should look for? Or should I be alright switching? Thanks, Mike

Synthetic in the top only (engine case). There are a few cases of problems in the lower end (tranny case) believed to be linked to synthetics.

Have a 97S3T with 103,198.75 miles as of the last ride ...

Top End has never been off !!!

Ran H-D 20W-50 dyno oil first 60K then H-D syn3 20W-50 to present in both engine and transmision(dyno then syn3) ...

Do recommend you take the OEM SPRING PLATE out of clutch and replace with two STEEL PLATEs and one FIBER(use H-D parts)if you not want the clutch to self destruct around 50K ...
