OK, so last fall I chased buddy all over, him on the '95 Thunderbolt, me on the Motarded DR650. As you can well imagine, life hasnt been the same. Put a deposit on an 2002 M2 today and looking forward to much joy. I know I can search stuff but is it OK to ask noob questions? Thanks |

Welcome Bernd!! Yep, you're about to be a new grinner!! Whatever you can't find, or can find and don't understand(I have that problem), ask away. You'll usually get all kinds of helpful intelligent answers. Or sometimes you can only find some dummy like me. Ain't no tellin' what I might tell you, but I'll try to make it sound good. Rotzaruck!! |

Thanks for the warm and fuzzy! I'm pretty jazzed about the M2. Pick it up on Friday. Oh, I should correct a mistake I made, it's actually a 2000. I got all giddy with delerium when I was pecking out my first post. I'm sure you understand. OK, down to brass tacks, whats with the floppy shifter? I've seen the new style, whats a good one to get? Thanks in advance. |

I have the upgraded shifter (I believe yours came with that, too?) Mine's not floppy at all. The Banke shifter is a really nice piece of work, but pricey.

Thanks Captainkirk, I have the older style shifter and want to upgrade to one like yours. I guess going with the new style ('01-'02) factory shifter is the way to go. |

The newer case mounted shifter is more precise than the old 'boomerang' shifter, but the linkage is susceptible to damage in a lowside. On the older shifter, usually just the tip breaks off. It's also easier to relocate the pegs higher and further back with the old 'boomerang' because it uses the peg as a pivot. American Sport Bike sells a bushing kit that takes most of the slack out of the movement, but it's a consumable sintered bronze bushing, so there is some maintenance involved to keep it tight as you use it. |

Mmmm, some things to consider. I do like the new style shifter and I believe I'm all caught up on crashing but you never know, do you? Thanks for your input Djkaplan, I will think on this. |
