ok, im not the pro of the world at applying header wrap. but i think im doing it right. Ive tried twice on the x1. once dry, and once with the header oFF the bike in a vice. and both times the header wrap ripped and shredded.. how do you make it stay on??? |

did you use the spray on them? It seals them like a cast. |

Make sure you put the wrap in a bucket of water and pull it real tight as you wrap it. Make sure you wear some gloves, this stuff is nasty! Once you install the wrap, let the wrap dry completely, and then spray a couple coats of the sealant high temp spray on there. When you install the pipes and ride the bike, they will smoke a lot and smell horrible. After a couple rides, the wrap will have shrunk down to the pipe and be basically rock hard and good to go. The smoking will also stop, but you will always be able to faintly smell it. Hope this helps! (Message edited by milesvdustin on May 19, 2008) |

Wrap wet, not dry. It lets you stretch it as you put it on, but keeps you from tearing it, and when you first start the engine with a wet wrap, it "sizes" the wrap to the header pipe for a nice tight fit with no flapping. I didn't use the spray seal, but wrapped my S1W about 3k miles ago and aside from the black fading, the material still looks like it did when I put it on. |

i ran a wrapped header for many year with no problem.. the instruction didnt say any thing about wetting the wrap first so i removed the exhaust and applied as per there instructions,, i didnt seal it either. the only thing it did was the "black" started cooking out and it started to go back to white.. looked fine and stayed on fine for probably 3-4 years until i removed that header and got a replacement one that i polished... maybe it is the brand you chose? maybe try a different company? |

My Force exhaust was beautifully wrapped by it's previous owner, but after 6,000 and constant temp drops on a trip to Colorado the pipe split in half and ruined the header (well, at least 'til I got home and welded it back together). Without the wrap I would've seen when it cracked, but because it was on there I'll never know when it did... |
